First, the above link is just a list of EVs.
Please explain the following:

Too late. First Mitsubishi, Next is Mazda. Japan's auto industry will be mostly gone by 2040.
We are talking 450 mile range mass-market EVs from Hyundai/Kia by 2025. There is no way Japanese can catch up to this.

Mitsubishi I can see but Mazda not so much.
Mitsubishi makes meh cars. They have no brand distinction and no real core competitive advantage.
Mazdas are fun to drive and very reliable. I have owned 3 and were I to be in the market again, I would gladly purchase a Mazda 3 turbo or an MX-5. I also hear very good things about their small SUVs.
I grant that they are late to the party on EVs as a result of not being aggressive enough, but they design such enjoyable cars, I think that there is a place for them in the market.
In the US at least, Mazda has one of the highest brand loyalty ratings of any automobile maker and the fit and finish, especially the interior is that of a car that usually runs 20k USD more in price.

But Mazda makes the worst EVs around, worse than even the Chinese EVs.
The US government is jacking up the emissions standard to choke ICE vehicles out of market. Japanese automaker's days are numbered, the sole exception being Honda which decided to adopt a foreign EV platform(GM/LG Ultium) to transition to EV rapidly.
Yes, it's not a total ICE ban in the US like the EU's ban, but the US is trying to drive ICE vehicles out of existence by raising the cost of making them above that of an EV.

Mazda makes great cars. I had one in the US and on here in Japan. The best of the mid-level JP brands - Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Suburu, MItsubishi. Beautiful styling. (That red is just breathtaking.) The interiors are on par with entry-level luxury models from BMW, MB, and Lexus. It's hard to believe you're inside a car costing only Y3.M.
BUT, and it's a big but, they are not only super late in the EV space, they didn't even offer hybrids until recently. And, that might hurt them. OTOH, with the Toyota partnership, and its breakthrough battery tech, they may hold on and be successful in the space. People were also counting Toyota out because of their EV procrastination. But, boom, suddenly new battery tech, and they may just leapfrog over the competition.
