Japan's future is a playground for wealthy Asians, more and more this will mean Chinese. The stereotypical image of Chinese tour groups is well outdated these days. They are noisier than the Japanese but at least they are not afraid to enjoy themselves and express their emotions. I hope the hotel building can keep pace with the demand.

Unfortunately even Vietnamese don't want to come so eagerly to Japan anymore.

The Nikkei.asia edition today has a report about 12,000 mainly Vietnamese on the trainee worker scheme that have "gone missing" in Japan. So some seem quite keen to come and stay.

Russia's war with Ukraine has generated its own fog, and misinformation is everywhere.

Really? I thought that everything reported by Ukraine was true and honest and everything from the Russian side was lies and propaganda.

A week later, Mariupol’s main drama theater was destroyed in an airstrike even though the word “children” was written in Russian in large letters in two spots around the theater to show that civilians were sheltering there. A week later, Mariupol’s main drama theater was destroyed in an airstrike even though the word “children” was written in Russian in large letters in two spots around the theater to show that civilians were sheltering there. The blast killed as many as 600 people.

And when an independent Italian journalist visited the site there was no evidence of any mass deaths.

The blast killed as many as 600 people.

As many as.... means they pulled a number out of a hat. If you took a zero off, the number would still be high.

Reagan apologized and 61.8 million dollars was paid out during the Clinton administration.

Again facts matter...

the U.S. government did not admit legal liability or formally apologize to Iran, it agreed to pay US$61.8 million on an ex gratia basis in compensation to the families of the Iranian victims. And awarded the captain of the ship that shot down a civilian aircraft on its regular flight schedule a medal.

Neither of which made any difference at all to Japans ability to feed itself.

Yes in the past Japanese used to eat rice 3 times a day. Now they have a more varied diet. Japan is a rich country, when food is priced on an open market, it won't be Japan missing out.

Perhaps Japan could suggest that Iran apologize for shooting down the ukrainian passenger plane on the 8 January 2020, killing all 176 passengers and crew aboard.

The Iranians have apologized but we are still waiting for the US to apologize for shooting down an Iranian passenger plane (Iranair 655) in 1988 killing 290 passengers and crew.

I know Russia has been getting their invading asses kicked by a tiny country.

Russia has annexed pretty much all the land it regards as Russian. They have put in defensive positions to secure these areas. Ukraine has failed miserably to put the tiniest dent into these defenses. Where the armies are now is where they are going to end up give or take a few kms in the east. The Ukrainians know this, the Russians know this and the puppet masters in the Pentagon know this. Politically none of them can admit it publicly.

Since then, Iran's government has been galloping ahead with its nuclear program, openly exceeding the deal’s limits on uranium enrichment and stockpiling, and building a new nuclear facility.

As they are free to do after the US unilaterally ended the agreement. An agreement that Iran was following to the letter.

Posted in: Japan traffic accident deaths up in Jan-June for 1st rise in 10 years See in context

About half of the deaths were walking or cyclists. I know from previous years that roughly 40% of road traffic death in Japan occur at light controlled crossings. Two reasons for this, as I said before cars turning left while pedestrians are crossing straight and also vehicles passing on red and pedestrians and cyclists just stepping out on the G of green without looking. Look before you cross, even with a green light.

The 2015 nuclear accord between Iran and six major powers -- including Russia and China -- was aimed at scaling down Iran's activities in that sector in order to allay fears it was developing atomic weapons.

An accord that Iran kept to but the US under Zionist pressure broke unilaterally.

Posted in: Japan traffic accident deaths up in Jan-June for 1st rise in 10 years See in context

At junctions, all cars should come to a halt enabling pedestrians to cross in any direction like at the Shibuya crossing.

At some of the large junctions this can work.

Japan has the idea that lowering the average speed of vehicular travel reduces accidents but research in the UK in the 1970s in Bristol showed that having smooth travel was safer. Less lights, more give way signs and roundabouts. The turn left driving while pedestrians and cyclists are crossing is designed to give walkers longer to cross but in reality gives them more chance of being hit by a driver hurrying to get around the corner before the light changes.
