Meanwhile in Japan, you have to make an appointment to get Plan B...which utterly defeats the purpose of emergency contraceptive.

Someone clearly needs anger management classes. A single blow to the head can be fatal. She's just possibly lost years of her life because she couldn't deal with conflict like a sensible adult.

When the trains go down, we have buses that sub for it and they're free. Never seen such services in Japan. What do they expect the commuters to do in these situations, fly to their destinations?

In Japan? Where xenophobia is alive and well, where conformity is all but demanded, and where people with mental and / or physical disabilities are looked down on? Yeah, good luck with that. Kishida is dreaming.

Posted in: 'Oppenheimer' isn't opening in Japan this week, but the country has a long history of cinema about the war See in context

Does the movie cover the full context about why the bombs were developed and dropped on Japan?

Saw it the other day. They touched upon the reasons why vaguely but didn't go into depth. It's a brilliant film though; I liked how it focused on the man and his character and reasonings and not the A-bomb itself. The cast for the film is also stacked. It was a great cinematic experience.

Huh? This is no different to any beach, anywhere, in the height of summer.

We don't pitch tents on our beaches. It utterly defeats the point of going to the beach to soak up the sun and enjoy fresh air and being outdoors. Tents are for campsites.

What an eyesore. They've turned a once lovely beach into Tent City.

Considering how so few Japanese people travel abroad or even hold passports, it was a waste anyway to have such accessibility go about unused.

Nobody cares. Covid is a part of our lives now, like the flu. Stop sensationalizing it, Japan. Covid cases will come and go; that's just how it's going to be.

See, this is the problem with Japan and their inability to enforce a rule instead of "requesting" for something to be done or not done. Especially with kids who need clearer guidelines. It also baffles me how there are so many drowning tragedies involving kids in Japan. Are they not taught swimming in schools and educated about the dangers of bodies of water? They live on an island for goodness sake!

She could have left some cash in the truck as payment if she was that desperate. How silly to be booked for theft and assault because of ice cream.

Movies come out so late in Japan it's embarrassing, not to mention extremely frustrating. I've seen movies being released in Japan over a year after it's been released everywhere else. The fact that Oppenheimer isn't opening in Japanese cinemas in time with the rest of the world isn't news. It's just Japan being late to the party again, as per usual.

If Japan were smart and not anti-immigration, they could adopt what some other countries facing similar issues do - offer financial incentives, housing allowances, and digital nomad visas to prospective residents.

I believe they are like unicorns - non-existent. The concept of mental health in Japan, if it even is acknowledged, is so dated, their approaches, attitudes, practices and treatments should probably be outlawed. They do have TELL for the non-Japanese community though:

Posted in: Why do you think there are few public trash cans in Japan? See in context

Same mentality as with the masks - they associated the bins with something scary (in this case, I think it was an act of terrorism?) and so they did away with all the bins and that was that. No thought to revise the decision or adjust to suit current situations and needs. I wonder if they realize how absurd and mental the "take your rubbish home with you!" signs are.

The U.A.E. Summers can go up to 52 degrees C but it's actually more tolerable than say summers in Japan because it's a dry heat. The humidity is what makes summers torture.

Normally, something as mundane as the geographical or political accuracy of a map wouldn't really register on people's radar but by bringing attention to it on the news and social media...well yeah; now everyone's going to be honing in on it. They brought this on themselves really.

Posted in: Kyoto merchants want city to install more trash cans to fight litter in historic neighborhood See in context

Honest to Pete, Japan needs bins EVERYWHERE. It's absolute madness to want or have to throw something away only to not find a bin in sight. They also need to do away with their absurd and ridiculously convoluted trash collection system and allow residents to throw trash away daily. Ever wonder why some buildings and areas have a pest and infestation problem? Because they keep bags of trash festering in their flat until whatever specified day they can throw it out. Absolute bonkers.

Unless it's an animated movie, subtitles. Dubbed movies, especially for live action is always off in that the voice doesn't quite match the character and neither do the movements of the mouth. It's very distracting.

I'm sure the Japanese government will smooth out the kinks eventually. Quitting a job to look for better opportunities and a better paycheck should not be seen as a bad thing. In fact, it's seen as leveling up. How conflict-adverse are Japanese employees that such services have to exist?

Why is Hawaii such an attractive tourist destination for Japanese people when they can simply go to Okinawa if the beach and ocean is what they're hankering after? Also, why even bother flying to such a far flung place for only 4-5 days? At least give yourself a week to recover from jetlag and give yourself some breathing room in your itinerary.

Why are they meeting in Japan? Japan, who fell down the gender equality gap this year to 125th place. I don't think the words "women" and "empowerment" are in any of the Japanese governments' vocabulary. All they're going to contribute to this meeting is pointless nods and half-hearted hums of vague agreement.
