Nice on the Adriatic coast right now.

Nice on the Adriatic coast right now.

Thank you for this valuable information.

Watching the Scottish Genisis Open right now and it is chilly.

All the golfers, caddies, and gallery are wearing summer sweaters or summer windbreakers and some people are actually wearing knit caps.

-10 ( +8 / -18 )

Currently 11 degrees celsius in my hometown.

-9 ( +9 / -18 )

It’s hot in places where it is summer now.

Especially in all the desert cities mentioned in USA.

-11 ( +9 / -20 )

The Las Vegas weather service warned that assuming high temperatures naturally come with the area's desert climate was "a DANGEROUS mindset! This heatwave is NOT typical desert heat".

6 ( +11 / -5 )

And still some deny climate change, often for political expediency. Shame on you.

4 ( +17 / -13 )

Don’t blame it on global warming. The recent heatwaves worldwide are caused by the jet stream temporarily having shifted southward. The earth has actually become cooler over the past eight years, shown by the fact that the Antarctic ice has grown thicker.

-13 ( +6 / -19 )

The heat in Europe is being caused by a heat dome. Death Valley hottest place on earth at 55ºC.

3 ( +8 / -5 )

The adjusted temperature here today was pretty ridiculous. Just have to crank up the AC and chill at home. Boring.

I saw some kids coming back from track and field practice this evening. I have no idea how they do it. I think i would die running in this current heat.

Its scary

1 ( +7 / -6 )

summers are hot during july in northern hemisphere...

-4 ( +9 / -13 )

Regarding above: Death Valley, California reaching 55C ( 131F). It could happen, but a normal summer day there is 47C (117F), so temperatures approaching the 55 do occur in some summers - say, 52 or 53. A summer with no 50C ( 122F) there would be rather unusual. By the way, the official record for Death Valley of 57C(134F) occurred long ago in 1913, although its accuracy is somewhat contested.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Let's see... It's mid-July in the Northern Hemisphere (known as Summer) during which time "heat waves" have been historically known to occur.

With advancing urbanization, the concentration of concrete and asphalt in the expanding metropoli augment solar heating. Coupled with the advancement of measuring technologies, placed in the newly urbanized areas, and it's no surprise that "record" readings occur. Localized changes in micro - climate are all the Earth is experiencing.

-9 ( +7 / -16 )

Fearmongering.

I remember being some 30 years ago in Laughlin, Nevada and temperature had reached 45°C and it had been ovee 40 for several days easily...

Nothing new.

In Paris, cool time.

Of course on average gets warmer in cities, becaise of heat accumulation (Using A/C brings many many kWh in the air...)

-8 ( +6 / -14 )

Six of the hottest days in the last 1,000 years have been in the last 2 weeks.

Summer is warmer and there are fluctuations, but this hot, this long, thus many places….

One would think even the morons could see the trends.

Sadly, no.

Don’t blame it on global warming.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/jul/16/red-alert-the-worlds-hottest-week-ever-and-more-is-to-forecast-to-come

*Soaring levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere** and an unusual band of strong winds that have hovered high over the Atlantic have already triggered heatwaves in Texas, Greece, Spain, Italy, and a host of other nations.*

...

“The chances are that the month of July will be the hottest month ever … ‘ever’ meaning since the Eemian [interglacial period], which is some 120,000 years ago.”

...

*“A typical El Niño temporarily adds about 0.2C to average global temperature,” said Jeff Knight, manager of climate variability modelling, for the Met Office. *“This increase is dwarfed by the 1.2C that we have seen from climate change since the Industrial Revolution but added to that human-induced warming, a new global temperature record is still likely to be set before the end of next year.”

...

*“We should not be at all surprised with the high global temperatures,” Prof Richard Betts, climate scientist at the Met Office and University of Exeter, told the BBC. *“This is all a stark reminder of what we’ve known for a long time, and we will see ever-more extremes until we stop building up more greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.”

It's curious why JT attracts such a large contingent of global warming deniers. Some undoubtedly derive a sense of their own worth by adopting a 'contrarian' position on most things in life, play at being 'intellectual' and have become adept at cherry picking data to obscure what's happening before their own eyes. Some seem motivated by their identification with political tribes, or antipathy to progressivism. Either way, it won't help them or us when the water in the pot all boils away.

It gets hot in the summer and when it does take a dip in the ocean to cool down-not difficult to do…

Had to laugh when you quoted The Guardian. The paper's editorial policy is to take hyperventilation to the next level by referring to it not as boring old climate change, but the "climate emergency." No room for objective judgment there.

Coupled with the advancement of measuring technologies, placed in the newly urbanized areas, and it's no surprise that "record" readings occur. Localized changes in micro - climate are all the Earth is experiencing.

Those advancements in measuring technologies include satellite imagery which show the polar ice caps shrinking at an alarming rate.

How is it that ‘localized changes’ are happening all over the world?

It’s always happened and we didn’t notice because we didn’t have technology to measure it?

As a theory that’s just plain idiotic.

Without telling us where your hometown is that information is pointless.

The data shows that absolute climate change denial is about 5% of the population in the US and a few other developing nations, suggesting it could be a lack of education :

https://www.statista.com/chart/19449/countries-with-biggest-share-of-climate-change-deniers/

Also, data shows that conservative boomers are the most likely to deny climate change or that humans are the cause :

https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2021/05/26/key-findings-how-americans-attitudes-about-climate-change-differ-by-generation-party-and-other-factors/

To summarise :-

Conservative boomers with no college education.

To summarise :-

Conservative boomers with no college education.

At least boomers can name a few continents, can figure out what 2 x 2 x 1 is and know that water freezes at 0C or 32F.

College students and recent graduates today can't.

I live in California. It has been one of the coolest summers so far in decades. There are always a few weeks that temperatures go into the 90s during summer. It is normal, but now news media sensationalizes it like it is quite abnormal.

-3 ( +5 / -8 )

When denial of the reality of climate change becomes untenable for those politically opposed to governments acting in the interest of the general public, they'll switch from arguing that governments shouldn't act because climate change isn't unnatural or is overstated to arguing that it is understated or unstoppable or nature will adapt to it without missing a beat.

Demonstrably false!

I know that your fellow climatologists might disagree with you and then you would have your credibility questioned, but why don't you publish a story about what is really happening? Have the courage to stand up to your colleagues and tell people via scholarly publications or even magazine or news articles. One of the reasons people fear global warming is that you climatologists who fear damage to your reputations won't speak up.

Don’t blame it on global warming

If your claim that the world experts on climate are wrong, you need much more than an appeal to your personal authority to do it, a reference that can disprove the current data that clearly shows this to be an effect of climate change would be the least necessary.

Anecdotal evidence doesn't stack up to the fact that the last 9 years have been the warmest on record. We are talking about global averages, so it accounts for regional differences:

Either way, it won't make much difference when the water in the pot sloshes around as it has done for millenia.

Because only people from one political affiliation in one country in the world really feel otherwise maybe?

Just spitballin' ideas, hear.
