Kishida and the LDP are just licking their lips at the thought here! Damn the constitution full speed ahead!

Of course it will be allowed, it's good both for government for big companies. Imagine how much fund they'll receive for a start just to help them to enhance their ability to export.

Find out what learning and rate curves are. The more of something you produce, the lower the unit cost. Learning reduces the labor hours per unit, rate measures savings from things like economies of scale. Foreign sales can reduce the cost to Japan of the same system compared to what it would cost without the extra volume from foreign sales.

It hasn't even been built yet, never mind fly. It's just a concept at the moment.

Most likely guaranteeing that there will be no technology sharing with the US.

well i believe they need to amend constitution first?

However, Western countries have supplied military apparatuses, including missiles, tanks and fighter jets.

And other expensive targets that to quote Mr. Putin.. "seem to burn very well."

Reminds me of a local Baltimore band named Hoodwink song:

Tax the rich

Eat the poor

Dress up your sons for war

Then tell everyone the fault is theirs.

For you the puppet masters do not care.

Have you ever read the J-Constitution? There's nothing in it that prohibits the export of weapons.

We, the Japanese people, desire peace for all time and are deeply conscious of the high ideals controlling human relationship, and we have determined to preserve our security and existence, trusting in the justice and faith of the peace-loving peoples of the world. We desire to occupy an honored place in an international society striving for the preservation of peace, and the banishment of tyranny and slavery, oppression and intolerance for all time from the earth. We recognize that all peoples of the world have the right to live in peace, free from fear and want.

Aspiring sincerely to an international peace based on justice and order, the Japanese people forever renounce war as a sovereign right of the nation and the threat or use of force as means of settling international disputes.

In order to accomplish the aim of the preceding paragraph, land, sea, and air forces, as well as other war potential, will never be maintained. The right of belligerency of the state will not be recognized.

Sending of fighter jets is in direct oppositions of all paragraphs from japanese constitution above.Fighter jets are not meant to be used by some farmers for making of tomatoes but to be used in wars and to kill people.

will LDP put fat profit from selling of guns abroad over own constitution?

I completely understand that current and former US military on JT support the increasingly militaristic stance of the LDP. My wife and many other Japanese citizens would greatly appreciate such changes being done in an open and democratic way and not in smoke filled LDP party offices.

Put it to a vote.

But the Constitution also says 'land, sea, and air forces, as well as other war potential, will never be maintained,' so obviously it is not worth the paper it is written on.

1) GCAP is a British-led project with Japan and Italy as junior partners.

2) Export arrangement will be like current Eurofighter program, where each partner nation gets its own marketing territory.

3) Japan will likely get Asia Pacific as its marketing territory, while Britain gets Middle East and Italy gets EU.

4) But there are no potential buyers for GCAP in the Asia Pacific due to its huge price, estimated to be $300 million/unit.

5) Australia is frequently mentioned as a potential GCAP buyer, but Australia is done buying fighter jets and is cutting back procurement to bet the farm on $250 billion AUKUS nuclear submarine project.

6) India is basically going indigenous with TEDBF and AMCA.

7) So there is basically no export market for Japan, other than parts supply share on potential British exports to the likes of Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, etc.

8) The fighter jet likely to dominate the Asia Pacific and Middle East is the KF-21, going at $100 million/unit in later full-stealth Block 3 configuration.

Usually Britian's multi nations fighter jet program includes Germany and later with Spain. The Tornado and Typhoon were products of their collaborations. But this time the next European fighter has no Germany and Spain involved, here comes Japan, an Asian one. It might be a very expensive and risky one that scare off the Germans and Spain. This kind of risky defence cooperation were hard to work out if they were not at the same level. Britian has very limited resources for new fighter program and so does Italy, Japan has some through their "ShinShen" but still not a mature one and Japan has almost no independent fighter jet program since post world war 2 years, even their civilian airliner MRJ(Space jet) has failed. So this project is a very risky one and the cost overruns likely to get it failed!

Only super powers will dominate the skies with 5th generation fighter jets:

US, Russia,China.

US has F22 & F35

Russia has Su57

China has J20 & J35

These three countries were in a race of developing the next generation or 6th generation fighters. Because they have sufficient power of both technology and funds.

The rest of the world South Korea, UK/Japan/Italy were hardly can matching the big three. And India AMCA..... good bye!

Nope. The Constitution was written by the Japanese. But the US put in Article 9 (paragraphs 1 &2) to which you refer. It was a means to keep the Emperor on the throne. Just 5 years after WWII end the Korean War started and the US literally forced Japan to create the JSDF. Which today is ranked 6th in the world.

Paragraph 2 needs to be amemded or removed as it contradicts relaity. But the first paragraph wherein Japan denounces the right to start a war stands as a model for all nations.

Japan has a big aggressive neighbor that doesn't respect that desire bub. That is Japan's reality. China tells the world the Ryukyu Islands are "Japanese occupied", lays claim to the Senkaku Islands and burns for revenge for the horrors the IJA inflicted on China in WWII. That is real life. China doesn't respect peaceful intent. They see that as weakness to exploit and are perfectly happy to use force to achieve their ends. Ask the Philippines how being weak and "peaceful" has worked out for them. It is especially ironic to read "We, the Japanese people" from a shill from Beijing.

You forgot the F-117 (there are a number in storage and the USAF is required to keep a cadre of qualified pilots for them), the B-2 that are publicly acknowledged. RQ-180 may also qualify.

These three countries were in a race of developing the next generation or 6th generation fighters.

NGAD prototypes flying, the B-21 will do so very shortly. The USAF allowed some kind of advanced jet to sit outside in broad daylight at Groom Lake where any satellite could photograph it. NGAD? SR-72 maybe? No official word, just this extremely interesting un-named aircraft sitting on a taxiway at Groom Lake, probably to give people in Beijing and Moscow something to chew on by way of deterrence.

Even if the Constitution of Japan was created by GHQ and used by the Japanese government to this day, no matter what the preamble says, it does not deny the nation's right to self-defense.

No one can stop Japan from increasing its defense capabilities for self-defense. Only Japanese people can do that.

The people who refuse to increase Japan's defense capabilities are only a few communists.

As long as there are hostile countries such as China, Russia, North Korea, and South Korea around, Japan will have no choice but to continue to strengthen its defense capabilities.

Did you pass English in school? Nowhere is there any mention of exporting anything. Your self serving "interpretation" that exporting fighterjets opposes the paragraphs is ridiculous as the exporting of weapons may equally support those paragraphs. I repeat, nothing in the constitution prohibits the export of weapons. That Japan has refused to do so is a self imposed restriction, not a law.
