BAN TIKTOK.

TikTok's algorithms are promoting videos about self-harm and eating disorders to vulnerable teens, according to a report published Wednesday that highlights concerns about social media and its impact on youth mental health.

The threat of AI may not be Skynet Terminators but algorithms weighted to maximizing profit at the expense of humanity.

I can't speak for TikTok's algorithm, but I used Instagram's Reels a couple of times. Over 70% of those that they showed me were Jordan Peterson and Andrew Tate clips and quotes. I know who those guys are and am aware of their positions (agreeing with some of it too) but I don't 'follow' them and have never deliberately sought out any of their content. I tried moving on from them quickly in the hope that the algorithm would start showing me stuff that I was actually interested in. It didn't.

All that to say that I can see how easily people can be swayed one way or another just by the kinds of content that someone/something else chooses to show them.

I noticed yesterday that about every 4th video on Tiktok was about unaliving oneself.

I hope thatbif someone out there is in that situation, that they seek help and speak to someone.

Ban TikTok!

Yet more of the USG's war on TikTok. US TikTok users need to fight back, telling US politicians they will vote against them, if they ban it. And keep opposing them. If your government takes your stuff away from you, whether Web 2.0 or (in the case of Brexit) the right to live and work across Europe, they are your enemy.

Algorithms pushing negative content to susceptible populations is a well known problem from years ago, so there is no real reason why any service is not dealing with it. Obviously Ticktok prioritizes profits over a responsible, ethical way of conducting business.

its a Chinese company.

It's a way of destroying today's Youth in the West, and is just one of the CCP's many tools for achieving that goal.

Ban it!

TikTok, a Chinese app alters its algorithms for Chinese and Western users.

Chinese user’s algorithms are designed to show videos of science experiments, engineering marvels, academic and arts achievement and such.

The algorithms for Western users are designed to show twerking, “challenges,” and stupid stunts.

It's name should in itself we a warning, to us all, a sort of sick joke by the CCP led creators of a ticking time bomb, which in effect it is.

I'd go along with those calling upon it to be banned.

The world is addicted to tik-tok AND China.

Hehe.

People would rather serve China than give up tik-tok.
