Objectively speaking, this will be an interesting opportunity for Japan to learn from Ron and his achievements, namely his stance on educational freedom, increased funding for teacher pay, record funding for mental health, a strong record on nature conservation, tougher stance on crime, overturning a ban on smokeable medical marijuana and flexibility for families during the pandemic. Regardless of the brushes some political factions try to paint him with, Ron seems, by and large, a moderate who appears to let his actions speak louder than his words.

He oversaw torture and was known to grin while watching. That being told by people who were subsequently released because the accusations were false.

My outline of his political achievements are completely factual, and that he has has traditionally conservative stances on some issues and adopts a traditionally liberal stance on others make him, by definition, a moderate.

All he is doing is pandering to fear and bigotry. That has been the MO of Republicans since Barry Goldwater ran for President. Anyone who is afraid of an immigrant, drag queen or a homosexual has bigger problems in their head than any problem created by the immigrant, aforementioned drag queen or homosexual. Ron DeSantis is a detestable person to stoop as low as he does appealing to the most vile bigotries of the Republican electorate. That is not leadership. Leaders don't appeal to fear, they appeal to what is good in people.

And if there is anything the country needs, it’s someone to unite and inspire people to the bigger things, instead of divide people intentionally with distractions.

Ron seems, by and large, a moderate who appears to let his actions speak louder than his words.

His actions include targeting vulnerable children and their families with despicable attacks for political gain, just because they were not born 100% male or female. These children already have the highest suicide rates in the US, partly because they experience so much bullying. And Ron is giving the green light to bully them MORE, under the cover of government authority. He is whitewashing the teaching of history, perversely turning the real problem of racism into an Orwellian formulation where it's supposedly Whites who suffer from unacceptable discrimination. He is banning books, forcing women to give birth against their will, and picking fights with private enterprises because he doesn't like their 'woke' politics. So much for freedom. So much for "moderation."

Why is the governor of any state even visiting a foreign nation? Who's paying for it? Will he visit Disney World? Hope to see some LGBTQ protests.

Its a key "battleground state" if you're running for POTUS, especially if you're trying to win Florida.

In the battle for the 2024 Republican nomination, DeSantis is the biggest threat to former President Donald Trump, in both polls and media attention.

DeSantis is a Harvard elite, an authoritarian who's having books banned, and cannot see the irony in wanting "1984" banned. But Orwell was not an American, he was a foreigner and DeSantis hates foreigners. And DeSantis continues to attack private businesses that do not want to have the state of Florida dictate to them how to conduct their private business.

I would say the Japanese are incredibly adept at hosting swaggering, cocksure Americans.

He will be complimented on his one word of Japanese and his use of chopsticks, if he tries either. His looks will be coquettishly compared to Tom Cruise, although they will remain diplomatically silent about the height similarity.
