Putin and the Kremlin seem to want to rival Stalin and his brutal regime and their Holodomor, the man-made famine that killed many Ukrainians. https://www.britannica.com/event/Holodomor

A clear warcrime.

another struck during firefighting efforts

They've even started using terrorist tactics.

I guess there is nothing to be done but document and plan to remove the threat on the land. The rest will come when Russia's failure is complete.

Stalin was Georgian, not Russian. He was a foreign dictator that oppressed the Russian people

Russians view the Communist regime as a dictatorship that invaded their country and subjugated them.

It was Krushchev, a Ukrainian, who forced the Russians in the Donbass and Crimea to be ruled from Kiev.

In fact, from Stalin onwards, there were no ethnic Russian leaders of the USSR until Gorbachev, who ended the tyranny of Socialism and released the Russian people from oppression.

There sure is a lot of admiration of Stalin today in Russia regardless.

Yeah, because exclaves totally makes sense. I guess they do for the Russian.

In fact, from Stalin onwards, there were no ethnic Russian leaders of the USSR until Gorbachev, who ended the tyranny of Socialism and released the Russian people from oppression.

At this point I'm surprised they haven't declared Gorbachev an enemy of the state posthumously for daring to say Russia should be modern.

Russia followed its withdrawal from a grain export deal by expanding its attacks from port infrastructure to farm storage buildings..."

A bit hard to believe Russians would be wasting their precious missiles on targeting farm storage warehouses unless there was something inside different from just "grain, peas and barley."

-6 ( +7 / -13 )

what officials described only as an “important infrastructure facility”

Could we get more details about this "important infrastructure facility"

or is the vagueness and ambiguity intentional?

-9 ( +7 / -16 )

Time to end this madness we need a negotiated peace settlement now, not later

-10 ( +7 / -17 )

Putin is really shooting himself in the foot with going after the grain. It will mostly affect African nations and they won't take kindly to Putin destroying the food that they need to survive.

And if you thought that it isn't in the West's interest to help Ukraine, you now have a big reason to oppose Russia. What do you think Russia would do if it was able to control the Black Sea indefinitely? They could hold the world to hostage by stopping grain shipments from Ukraine.

Well done Putin, you gave the West the biggest reason to support Ukraine for years to come. Putin really didn't think this one out.

Yeah, right and give Putin full control over the Black Sea and Ukraine's grain forever. That would not be a good idea.

Yup. And now you can see how petty Russia can be. They want to cause world hunger in poor African nations. They just gave the world another reason to wholeheartedly support Ukraine.

question:

Who is the largest grain exporter to Africa?

Answer: Russia.

“As of 2020, Russia, France, and Ukraine were the main suppliers of wheat to Africa, according to export value.”

“A new DOD OIG report states potentially millions of dollars worth of weapons have being stolen & resold by Ukrainians, including grenade launchers”

Good move as long as civilians are not harmed. Mr Putin is a genius.

Removing Ukraine's grain from the market will push prices up too high for Africa to afford. It could have dire consequences.

millions of dollars worth of weapons have being stolen & resold by Ukrainians

just watch videos of weapons in Nigeria, Mexico and Sudan. And Albanian ports.

https://www.military.com/daily-news/2023/07/20/weapons-sent-ukraine-were-danger-of-falling-criminal-hands-watchdog-warned.html

Quotes from the report, to which Blacklabel fails to give a link (not surprising, really, I doubt he bothered reading past the headline):

Last year, a Russian-led organized crime group in Ukraine was able to obtain weapons shipped to the country for the war effort

a group of volunteer Ukrainian battalion members stole more than 60 rifles and nearly 1,000 rounds of ammunition

The schemes were disrupted by Ukraine's security service

in late June 2022, the Ukrainian security service, or SBU, broke up a crime group controlled by an "unspecified Russian official" whose members joined a volunteer battalion using forged identity documents and then procured weapons

Unfortunately, civilians will be harmed. This is likely to cause hunger in poorer nations, like nations in Africa.

.

Putin has been using terrorist tactics from the beginning, when Russia targeted civilians.

4 ( +10 / -6 )

Precise and tactical attacks...

And that's just the beginning...

Keep testing the patience of Russia and Mister Putin...

What do you believe??.. Is Russia going to lose??.. Russia is invincible!!...

Russia beat Napoleon, beat Hitler... An ex-comedian president of Ukraine is no rival, not now or ever..

Mother Russia is big, full of resources, great and invincible..

-10 ( +6 / -16 )

A bit hard to believe Russians would be wasting their precious missiles on targeting farm storage warehouses unless there was something inside different from just "grain, peas and barley."

Yes.

Just like when Russia hit a pizza place a few weeks ago. The MSM only mentioned the few civilian casualties, with no mention of the many foreign soldiers that were under the rubble.

-9 ( +5 / -14 )

important civilian structure .in this case place for storage of food for UA army,so military target.

if checked other sources no human casualties.

precise attack.

Kiev regime will learn soon through own pockets costs of their terrorists attacks on Crimean bridge,Nordstream...Russia can forgive but will never forget.

Volodymyr its about time to pack and leave scene.

-9 ( +5 / -14 )

Russia ended the deal?

Really? Part of the deal was that the shipping corridors were not to be used for military purposes. The Freighter that launched the sea drones that attacked the Crimea bridge did exactly this. Ukraine/NATO knew this would be the result but thought it would be worth it as they were desperate for some positive news to report during the failed "offensive". Can you call it an offensive if you have actually lost ground?

Yeah, I don't the ICC will look on everything being declared a military target as being acceptable. There are some actual non-military targets.

if checked other sources no human casualties.

Not a factor in whether this was a war crime.

precise attack.

So a precise war crime.

Kiev regime will learn soon through own pockets costs of their terrorists attacks on Crimean bridge,Nordstream...

So you admit this was done to target economic activity, i.e. a warcrime.

Russia can forgive but will never forget.

Looks like Russia will have a few more rough centuries ahead as it nurses grievances resulting directly from its own actions.

3 ( +10 / -7 )

And lost to Ludendorff and Ronald Reagan. Oh well, can't win them all

Humiliated in Afghanistan too.

Mother Russia is big, full of resources, great and invincible

Isn’t its economy around the size of South Korea’s?

No. That grain is for export. It is not a military target.

I don't know how you can support Russia removing Ukrainian grain from the world market, driving up prices and hence world hunger in poor countries like African nations.

2 ( +10 / -8 )

It ain't the first time Russia (Soviet Union) starved the people of Ukraine.

5 ( +10 / -5 )

Again only barley and peas being hit? No military equipment in those storage facilities of course.

Apart from the loss of all those peas a bigger worry for Ukraine should be the complete lack of any anti air/ missile fire from the Odessa area. Did they move to somewhere more important or have they run out or been destroyed like the last working Patriot system near Kiev airport last month. Even the bridge linking the south to Romania was unprotected.

-1 ( +8 / -9 )

The Patriot systems have worked better even than expected, but they can't be everywhere. As for the Iranian kamikaze drones, most of them are being shot down, but not all.

1 ( +7 / -6 )

Everything’s a target. Even Chinese consular buildings.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

The Patriot systems have worked better even than expected,

Only in the propaganda reports, back in the real world they have been expensive white elephants.

-3 ( +8 / -11 )

Taiwanischina...

So what was Russia moaning about for months before this, huh?

Well, they were complaining that the part of the deal allowing Russia to sell its grain and fertilizer was not being met. They were also complaining about the ports being used for military purposes against the rules of the deal.

But don't worry, the deal will be resigned soon to keep the Turks happy. Except this time a large part of the east Black sea will be a no go area for non Russian shipping.

-4 ( +6 / -10 )

1glenn...

As for the Iranian kamikaze drones, most of them are being shot down, but not all.

Using a $1.4million missile to shoot down a $20,000 (Russian built copy of an Iranian drone adapted from a stolen US drone) is success for Russia.

-1 ( +8 / -9 )

Mr Kipling

Yes. Putin's aim is to push the price of grain higher, famine be damned.

They aren't shooting down drones with $1.4 million dollar missiles.

This is likely to cause hunger in poorer nations, like nations in Africa.

because of western sanctions on Russia, and blocking Russian exports of grains and fertilizer. Anglo Saxions and EU, G7 are to blame for this genocide.

Countries shouldn't do business with fascists. The Ukraine grain they are missing, however, is a result of Russian war crimes.

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

While it is true that a Stinger, at almost $500,000 each, can easily bring down a Shahed drone, most of them so far have been brought down by heavy caliber machine guns, and sometimes, even by rifles. It makes more sense to use the Stingers as a last ditch defense against Shahed drones.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

you are correct sir. Average price is $400000, but if they miss and hit civilians, a second one will take it to $800000.

true. Russia doesn’t sanction other nations, so you can find DR EVIL.
