Carlos can be asked anytime by French authorities since there is no requirement to be physically present in France to be summoned.

It does not stop in any way the process.

Also he can be tried and thus judged entirely from the distance.

It is also possible even if he had disappeared.

I am about sure at worst he will fined.

So what ... compare to the deemed culprit before trial from Japanese judiciary system.

The warrant was issued when Ghosn did not [travel from Lebanon to France] to be charged

As Ghosn’s lawyers emphasized, “He cannot leave Lebanon because of the Japanese prosecution. He therefore cannot respond [in person] to the summons to be charged in France.”

Makes sense.

1 ( +16 / -15 )

The warrant was issued by a Paris investigating magistrate when Ghosn did not appear to be charged last year on counts including corruption.

It just another show that French playing, they already know that Ghosn can't leave Lebanon and Ghosn always respect inquiry being done by French but French keep playing this whole theatrical thing. Anytime French delegation come to Lebanon, to make inquiry it always being fullfilled by Ghosn.

https://vancouver.citynews.ca/2020/12/26/french-investigators-to-question-carlos-ghosn-in-lebanon/

It might more politically motivated, while Ghosn is in the middle.

france has so many internal issues, why waste time to play games?

2 ( +12 / -10 )

He could be judged or interrogated by videoconference if the Lebanon authorities had the will to make some efforts and not protect him.

-6 ( +6 / -12 )

The French and the Japanese prosecutors can go and Q? Mr. Ghosn in Lebanon which the French already did, no need to bring him to Paris or Tokyo for Questioning!? if and when found guilty then that is a whole different event.

0 ( +6 / -6 )

The former CEO "cannot leave Lebanon, as Lebanese authorities have forbidden him to leave because of the Japanese prosecution.

So he cannot leave Lebanon now even if he wants to?

Wow

2 ( +11 / -9 )

“He cannot leave Lebanon because of the Japanese prosecution. He therefore cannot respond [in person] to the summons to be charged in France.”

It’s Ghosn’s problem that he can’t leave Lebanon, not the French authorities’. Come on, Carlos, are you going to spend the rest of your life as a fugitive? Turn yourself in to the French prosecutors and prove your innocence if you can.

9 ( +20 / -11 )

He could be judged or interrogated by videoconference if the Lebanon authorities had the will to make some efforts and not protect him.

No, no, no.

French prosecutors did visit Lebanon twice in 2021 and 2022 to question witnesses and Ghosn.

But Ghosn would need to travel to France to be formally indicted and to gain access to the details of the charges made against him.

13 ( +13 / -0 )

Ghosn currently lives in Lebanon, where he fled after a dramatic 2019 escape from Japanese custody accomplished in part by hiding in an audio-equipment box.

Why was this part needed to be included in this article? Japan is that sore from the slap in the face that they would never let this down! Everyone in Japan knows of this whole story especially his escape route. Just let it go! France and Japanese authorities have bigger issues to deal with like the riots and how to deal with the upcoming summer of crazies!

So he cannot leave Lebanon now even if he wants to?

That's right, to continue with prosecution Lebanon official need files from Japanese prosecutor that up until today those files never arrived.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Little weasel still hiding in Lebanon which has become a prison of his own making, All he's going to accomplish are warrants and default judgements against him. He continues to refuse to actually appear in any court anywhere to at least attempt to lawfully clear his name. And yet the fanboys keep cheering...lol.

4 ( +19 / -15 )

If the first warrant did not work, why try a second? Nothing has changed in Lebanon.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Ghosn is just another greedy capitalist whose money and connections tie the hands of justice.

6 ( +19 / -13 )

prove your innocence if you can.

This is not how the justice system works in civilized countries, of which France is one, and of which Japan claims to be one, at least when the Minister of Justice is not misspeaking. (She said this very sentence, in direct opposition to Japanese law, during Ghosn's escape.)

-3 ( +8 / -11 )

It must be tough for Carlos to see his peers commit the same crimes and constantly get away with them while he actually has the face the consequences of his actions. He must look at the world and think, "Oh, it's so unfair! I'm rich, why do I have to play by the rules." The only thing more pathetic than this conman is the sycophants who want to be his peons and the peons of other rich criminals like Elon Musk. Money is the oldest cult, and the oldest pyramid scam, and fools clamor to be the bottom rung getting bled dry.

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

The walls are closing in on Ghosn now. Just a matter of time before the crooked Lebanese regime sells him out and turns him over to Japan or France. Japan should "donate" US $100 million to connections of the Lebanese President to expedite this - and call it "development aid".

Ghosn - come back to Japan and have your day in court if you believe you are so squeaky clean.

-2 ( +10 / -12 )

Whatever I think of Ghosn and his tenure at Nissan and Renault, there is no question that the law was weaponized against him in Japan. It's called lawfare and there is absolutely no question that Japanese individuals at Nissan conspired with the government to oust him to prevent Nissan being folded into Renault.

The events of this year have proven this to be absolutely beyond doubt. Their mission has been accomplished.

In terms of the offenses that France is investigating / charging him with, there may well be offenses he should answer for. However, the reason Ghosn is in Lebanon is to remain out of the reach of the Japanese prosecutors who have weaponize the law to pursue lawfare against him.

I promise you that Ghosn would much rather be free, but "stuck" in Lebanon than be in Japan being abused by the Japanese legal & penal system. Every day he wakes up free rather than in a country that used the entire weight of the law to persecute him.

Just to "save" Nissan from the foreigners.

-12 ( +11 / -23 )

A crook.

1 ( +15 / -14 )

@zones2surf yes exactly, other commenters here not following about development of unwanted merger in the first place. It doesn't matter whether Ghosn or someone else, anyone in Ghosn position will be cleared at that time.

Even recently see what happened to foreign executives that just joining few years back, after Ghosn being arrested.

Was just asking if he can leave the country or not officially for any reason, nothing to do with extradition.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Just to "save" Nissan from the foreigners.

Is that the real case? Because SHARP is now owned by foreigners. And how does this work? Are the police on Nissan's payroll? A lot of Japanese companies have foreign executives.

Japanese individuals at Nissan conspired with the government to oust him

Exactly how did they do this? What are the specifics?

In addition, to avoid reporting the full amount of his compensation in Nissan financials, as required by Japanese law beginning in 2010, Ghosn had Kelly structure complicated deferred payment plans which went unreported under an aggressive interpretation of the disclosure rules which Nissan's outside auditors had not signed off on

(Wikipedia)

Also, I don't see any Wikipedia about Nissan collaborating with the police to have Ghosn arrested just to get him out of the way.

Just to "save" Nissan from the foreigners.

Why aren't the Taiwanese executives of SHARP under arrest?

9 ( +13 / -4 )

This comes out in the middle of all the other things going on there? Huh.

Perhaps an effort by the French to placate the Japanese without much attention?

Still not clear on what he did that was illegal?

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

If they want to talk to him, why can't they go to Lebanon? It all just seems very stupid to keep issuing arrest warrants knowing that he can't respond to them.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Anyone have any evidence to support their declarative sentences of guilt?

3 ( +6 / -3 )

This story is meant as a distraction from what Nissan is doing to Renault currently.

Last week, an article is posted about Nissan's intentions. We could see their endgame.

In response to what people are witnessing, people start to realize that Ghosn was not the bad guy.

Nissan: We better put some pressure on France to throw Ghosn front and center again. Remember people, this is the bad guy! Arrest warrant....OH! There's no way you are going to go back and do the research again.

Well said!

-15 ( +3 / -18 )

Ghosn is a crook.

I can't believe so many people still support this greedy man.

Yes, everyone keeps yapping on about Japan's Justice system.

But he should have manned up and fought to clear his name but obviously he has something to hide by running away.

He has been prosecuted by the SEC in the US along with Greg Kelly.

Now, the French have another arrest warrant.

Crimes in 3 Continents, nothing innocent about this despicable man.

And these supporters. . . . . man. . . how naieve some people are!!

6 ( +14 / -8 )

Well, Matsui manned up and went to court, he got a suspended sentence. But in Japanese society, his reputation is now s. . .

No one wants to be involved with him, that will last much longer and hurt much more than any prison sentence in Japan.

0 ( +5 / -5 )

Well if the first is being ignored issue a second then keep issuing those warrants until you get what you want.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Just extradite him back to Japan so he can face justice about his escape from detention then after that take him to the Netherlands and France for his corruption trials

nasty piece.

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

“Carlos hired private team of investigators, no need for any crime investigations”

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

“Trust me, he's gonna promise right here, pinky swear, never gonna do it again and hes gonna go all out no holds barred cage match, top to bottom, investigate himself!

Woulda saved a whole lotta ink. These French investigators…totally Unseriuos.

What happens when you lie with the flea catchers…

scratch scratch

0 ( +1 / -1 )

So many countries want this guy. It’s hardly an indication of a clean character. The point is that possible corruption of Japanese prosecution system does not mean that anyone it prosecutes is automatically innocent.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

Great!!..

Hunt that criminal..

2 ( +7 / -5 )

awww, and so many here proclaimed him an innocent wittle angel man, japan bad! bad!

3 ( +6 / -3 )

The Gosn saga will stay on these island.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Stay gone Ghosn. You’re a legend mate. The ‘eat the rich’ sentiments of many of the above comments tell more about their own psychology than yours. There’s a certain mindset that just hates successful people. Just knowing the things you achieved in your incredible career is enough for me to admire you, and then for taking your own life into your own hands while being betrayed and held down by swines is still inspirational. Just like the old saying goes, you can’t hold a good man down. Let the little people and resentful ones scream as much as they like. To me , you’re a hero.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

So many people hating on Ghosn! Japan had no evidence on him and they treated him as a criminal, yet there are other high profile bribe cases that just give out suspended sentences! The man fled Japan just as anyone else would do if they knew they were in trouble for doing nothing. They have ALL the evidence against these other cases but nothing came of it, yet for

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

(accidentially hit send) Ghosn, they had NO EVIDENCE or proof to get a solid case against him and he got the treatment like a horrible criminal! So as any sane court case/lawyer would see it, "no proof, no evidence, no witness = no case".

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Let's not forget the great think Carlos Ghosn did for Nissan and Japan. Give him a break!

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

I think of Ghosn and his tenure at Nissan and Renault, there is no question that the law was weaponized against him in Japan. It's called lawfare and there is absolutely no question that Japanese individuals at Nissan conspired with the government to oust him to prevent Nissan being folded into Renault.

And the Chinese are saying the same thing about Huawei  and Meng.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

This story is meant as a distraction from what Nissan is doing to Renault currently.

And Nissan controls the French government? I guess someone forget to tell you that French Government owns Renault

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Good. I hope he spends the rest of his life in a prison cell. After what he did to Uzi Nissan I will never consider buying or even renting a vehicle from Nissan.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Was just asking if he can leave the country or not officially for any reason, nothing to do with extradition.

I wasn't talking about extradition at all, despite the fact Lebanon doesn't extradite their citizen. I was talking about why he couldn't leave the country

https://www.reuters.com/article/nissan-ghosn-lebanon-ban/lebanon-imposes-travel-ban-on-ghosn-after-questioning-over-warrant-judicial-source-idINKBN1Z819I

This is what happens, Lebanon respect Japan and try to continue those legal process in Lebanon, in the mean time Ghosn can't go anywhere even his passport was being confiscated. Since from Lebanon perspective Ghosn has pending legal proceeding that need to be finished.

However in order to proceed with that Lebanon need files from Japan, Lebanon has asked those files from just few months affter Ghosn landed in Lebanon, however until today those files never arrived.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

@WiseOneIn Kansai

He has been prosecuted by the SEC in the US along with Greg Kelly.

Check again with the timing when was it?

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-sec-nissan-idUSKBN1W81NY

Ghosn and Kelly were fighting with charges that brought by former company and Japanese prosecutor, he even couldn't use computer and don't have access to any necessary evidences that he needed.

During those times, there are times he was in detention, even solitary confinement, so fighting SEC charges it will be impossible.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

@sir_bentley

So many people hating on Ghosn! Japan had no evidence on him and they treated him as a criminal,

Many people have no idea what really happened between Ghosn and his former company, even with current situation people can easily see what is going on.

https://japantoday.com/category/business/nissan-investors-ok-new-management-with-reduced-renault-influence

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Unlike Japan, civilised countries (and people's / cultures) don't.take hostages.

That is why Japanese prosecutors want h back in Japan for questioning, and not investigated by Interpol.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

Gosn shoulda paid the middle guy to hire the x prosecuter for the minus term and the sweet deal. TEll me Im wrong.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

And the Chinese are saying the same thing about Huawei and Meng

No correlation there. China's control over it's companies and on Huawei specifically is problematic on several fronts.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

And Nissan controls the French government?

No but the Japanese government can exert pressure on the French government.

Yeah right and that is why France is a middle of a race riot. LOL

No. Because the French are not sheeple and do not stand for police racism and brutality.

You can learn a thing or 2 from them

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

"I'm not allowed to leave Lebanon!" ...........

If he can escape from Japan while under arrest, then Lebanon should be super porous in comparison.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

It sounds like a political arrest warrant. It’s revenge against his law suit for a billion. Many countries seem to create artificial crimes on individuals when there is something they disagree. It is an uncivilised world.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

A company sale requires board approval. Why are we not hearing anything about board members. There’s no company that a ceo can alone decides to sell it and action on it. All of these legal actions and law suits, warrants of arrests sound ridiculous as if he could sell nissan alone by himself.

I have never heard about how he could alone sell nissan, nature of interaction with board, and excom members. Everything on the news appears as legal authorities are making up fiction stories to target individuals. If it is sincere and right, There should be some realistic information about misleading reports, if he got bribe, how he mislead board members if board members didn’t take bribe. And how did he deal with excom reports and recommendations if they were against this contract. Everything seems like fictional words.
