Her son comited suicide a while back. Losing your child woof can't imagine the pain. RIP to both of you. Even though nothing compares was a cover she made it hers and will be remembered long than most of us.

I’m surprised, but then again, I had a feeling she might not be around for much longer, she always was a troubled person, after tearing up the Pope’s picture she kind of never fully recovered after that, but also losing her son last year probably played a huge factor in her not being here now with us. Sad, you just don’t recover from something like. A very talented musician, a unique and exceptional artist gone way too soon.

A critic of the Roman Catholic Church well before allegations of sexual abuse were widely reported, O’Connor made headlines in October 1992 when she tore up a photo of Pope John Paul II while appearing on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” and denounced the church as the enemy.

She was excoriated by the conservative culture warriors at the time over this.

I don't know much about his music but it's always a terrible loss of human being.

Sinead's difficult childhood and troubled mental universe didn't equip her for getting along with this cruel world, but her rebellious, creative spirit born through her pain brought joy to many who will remember her with gratitude. RIP.

My GF at the time introduced Sinead's music to me in the late 1980s. She had an amazingly expressive voice. She really belted out an amazing rendition of The Foggy Dew with the Chieftains as well. RIP.

I cried for 30 minutes this morning.

I grew up on her music. A sad day indeed but hopefully she's at peace wherever she is now. RIP and condolences to the family.

Interesting lady. Her music wasn't my style, but there was no denying her skill, and she has one of the hits of all time that will live in people's memories long after her death.That's a type of longevity most of us will never get.

And I respect her protest against the church, it's been very damaging to Ireland. Good for her. She lived a life.

I really liked her debut album, the Lion & the Cobra and the song, Emperor's New Clothes. She was talented and honest. She also called out the Vatican and Catholic Church years before we heard about child sexual and physical abuse by clergy. She was right in that regard.

How sad. I remember when Nothing Compares 2U hit the airwaves. I broke with my GF from a weird teenage relationship and it was the first time a song really meant anything to me. It was like she knew exactly how I felt.

RIP Sinead. You brought me into this world and I'll never forget you. Thank you.

So nice voice and clearly with bipolar disorder with her confused way of thinking sometimes leading to behaviours hurting herself.

What poorly researched obituary. She was diagnosed with PTSD due to being abused as a child and being sent to a notorious Magdelene laundry. She converted to Islam many years ago and changed her name. No mention of that.

She was utterly vilified by conservatives for raising awareness of child sexual abuse long before they all suddenly cared (but not really).

A fierce spirit. RIP.

She had a lot of trouble, and she really let it get to her in the latter half of her too short life, but she has left us with some music that to this day will haunt, move, and make you love. "Nothing Compares 2 U" is still a fantastic song.

A real force of nature was Sinéad. The Emperor's New Clothes was a great song as well as her Nothing Compares 2 U Prince cover.

She lived a tortured life with mental issues, but left behind a beautiful legacy of work.
