Can't blame them one bit, when even the fishermen from Fukushima itself are questioning the government!

When the "locals" aren't on board, how the hell does the government expect to convince the regional countries and the rest of the world?

Driven by the usual deep seated hatred of Japan many have there.

I wonder if these muppets protest South Korea's dumping of FAR more dangerous radioactive waste into the sea?

What? If you dont share evidence or facts, it's the same as some politicians making up BS and trying to pass it off as "facts", just because they said it! You aint no politician, so you dont get a pass!

This just shows you the amount of distrust that Japan has, if it's not the Korean government one moment, it's the Korean opposition party that keeps moving the goal posts!!

IAEA with a few Korean experts inspected the proposed water discharge plan. OK

Another group of invited Korean experts inspected the water treatment facilities. OK

IAEA gives final approval of the water discharge plan. OK

Korean government respects the decision of the IAEA. OK

And now. . . . . . . .another goal post!!!!

Did anyone at the press conference ask these South Korean opposition lawmakers for their opinion on the following fact?

From 2010 to 2020, nuclear power plants in South Korea discharged a total of 4,362 TBq of tritium, which is more than 5 times the total amount of tritium (860 TBq) stored at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.

And that Wiki fact is sourced from an official Korean report.

I don't recall you voicing your grave concerns about this over the years, Yubaru.

@ Wise One - yep. Same source.

Will be interesting to see how the anti-science mob spins this.

I don't recall you voicing your grave concerns about this over the years, Yubaru.

I learned a very long time ago that no matter how much anyone shows any concern, grave or otherwise, it wont mean one bit!

It would naïve not to question the party political motives that compel the S Korean opposition lawmakers to question at every stage any means for Japan, its government and people to process the horrors imposed from a devastating earthquake.

For South Koreas Democratic Party lawmaker opposition, the plan to release Fukushima wastewater into the sea, and the genuine effort to allay fear of contamination was never going to dispel the political need to ultimately bark serves you right for past historic grievances.

Do we hear, read the same S Korean opposition lawmakers committing the same amount of time and effort condemning the North Korea launching long-range ballistic missiles toward sea and the devastating consequences such actions could have on future generations.

I know, I could be accused of cynical whataboutism.

Especially moaning in another thread about my own fears of contamination.

The long tried and tested SKorean anti-JPN political strategy. The SK govt has aleady accepted the IAEA findings.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

What is the point if they have not contradicted the findings from the experts that already reviewed the discharge? That is the opposite of what should be done and evidence a deep lack of understanding of what is the purpose of a visit.

Grossi’s face pretty much tells it all.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

South Korea also discharged as twice as Fukushima’s “wastewater”.

the main purpose is the same as china that is they want to disgrace Japan.

There is an election next year, so the Korean opposition parties are desperately anti-Japan.

And South Korea is a country where the majority of Koreans believe in it. They have already forgotten that they had a lot of trouble with mad cow disease.

No matter how much scientific evidence there is, no matter how much the Korean government evaluates it as legitimate, they cannot believe Japanese data and believe that international organizations have been bought by Japan.

It is useless to say anything to Koreans, so there is no need to deal with them from the beginning.

To put it the other way around, I can't believe the scientific evidence and statistics because I can't trust the data announced by the South Korean government, and I believe that other countries are naturally doing it because they are doing bribes at international organizations. .

They believe that even the other person they see in the mirror is the same as themselves.

I'm not pro Korean, not related to Korea or anything like that but the truth is someone should look into this radioactive water.

Someone who isn't paid by the Japan.

-12 ( +1 / -13 )

They could have every expert on the planet say it isn't a problem or danger and S Korea would still demand more experts.

No point of even listening to S Korea.

If Japan said the sky was clear on a sunny day, S Korea would demand a second, third, forth and forth opinion.

How about following the science?

The water being released in Fukushima is perfectly safe - and has been given the green light by the IAEA and UN.

Some places clearly do not follow the science - Fascist Russia, Communist China and their police-state province HK - and of course certain elements in SK, namely the leftist opposition. All they follow is political gain from bashing Japan.

I concur to the Koreans. Who wants to eat radiated fish? Forget sushi taro and all the sushi resturants they serving you fukushima radiated sushi. It make sense to quadruble fact check and make sure its safe. Tepco is desparate to release the water because they have no land to retain it its Japan fault for being a small island thats over populated while they complain about the greying poppulation. Once the greying population has kicked the bucked there will be plenty of space and room......make sense?

@fighto Ippatsu drinik

As much as you like to follow the science. Don;t forget Govt lies. I am also wishing the water is safe 100% but you have to be skeptical regardless of what the media says or the govt says. Cheers dude and take care.

@Agent_Neo

They have already forgotten that they had a lot of trouble with mad cow disease.

Interesting you don't know the history behind the mad cow disease protest.

The US SURRENDERED to 1 million Korean protesters and agreed to prohibit export of beef from cows older than 3 years, the onset age of Mad Cow Disease.

Will Japan SURRENDER to angry 1 million Korean protesters and BAN THE EXPORT of all seafood from Japan to Korea? That's the only acceptable solution if Japan were to go ahead with release of Fukushima radioactive waste water, to build the trust among consumers that none of seafood available at the market is from Japan. Knowing Japan, Japan won't do a thing, just watch Yoon get toppled and be replaced by the most hardcore anti-Japan candidate in the presidential office, and then go back to trade and diplomatic wars with Korea again.

Instead of complaining, the Democratic party quietly funds the development and deployment of the world's densest triple-layer missile defense system to protect Korea, and made Korea the US's biggest rival in missile defense system market with winnings in UAE, Saudi Arabia, and in negotiation with Romania.

South Korea might provide Ukraine with air defense systems – Zelensky

Air Defense Military assistance South Korea Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky War with Russia

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky believes that South Korea might provide Ukraine with air defense systems to protect civil and energy infrastructure.

He noted that the transfer of such systems does not violate the principles of arms transfer, as they are means of defense.

“Air defense systems are purely defense equipment, not weapons. To rebuild Ukraine, the “Heavenly Shield” must be in place. We sincerely hope that Korea will support us in this area. In addition, there is an early warning system that alerts about Russian airstrikes, and South Korea could also help with this,” Zelensky said.

Samit Basu, the next generation want, yearns for a future that bring unity through peace, not a region poisoned through past historic grievances.

Kpop, not vast expenditure programs to fund the development and deployment of the world's densest triple-layer missile defense system to protect Korea.

Japan and South Korea need unity, not Politian's Governments that refuse to find the necessary compromises to bring about an understanding to overcome past historic grievances, a paramount priority to secure economic security and peaceful coexistence.
