All the beauracrats look insanely tired.

Bad health care system equals bad health results. America needs to jump on the socialist medicine wagon and quit being afraid of that word.

Posted in: No more ice cream with Mount Fuji: Japan train line phases out snack carts See in context

That was a bit of a tough job pushing those heavy carts throught the narrow aisle. With the proliferation of convenience stores inside the stations, this was inevitably going to happen. A lot cheaper, more choices and fast.

But I did enjoy the option of buying some overpriced coffee, snacks and ice cream when the mood hit me. Enjoyed the pretty women who did this this job too.

Posted in: More Japanese regions brace for storms as Typhoon Khanun heads west See in context

Tropical storm, not really a typhoon/hurricane anymore. The intensity is much different.

The more the media keeps calling it a general typhoon, the more people tune in to the news. $

Posted in: Tokyo entertainment complex remodels restroom to remove gender-neutral setup See in context

Men's room, women's room. Just separate the two. Sometimes men should just be with other men and women should be with other women. Going to the bathroom is one of those times. It's more comfortable that way.

Genders don't always have to be mixed. They're different. There's a time and place for everything.

Posted in: U.S. loses to Sweden on penalty kicks in its earliest Women's World Cup exit ever See in context

Women's soccer doesn't deserve nearly the same pay as men's soccer. Period. The level, speed, and excitement is on a completely different scale. Rapinoe was a detriment to soccer.

Posted in: How concrete, asphalt and urban heat islands add to the misery of heat waves See in context

In Japan, the LDP and the construction companies are constantly putting concrete wherever they can.

The rivers I live near have had massive amounts of concrete added "for safety" in the last 15 years.

Come on voters. Vote this party out!

Posted in: Young Japanese should first become aware of environmental issues and then they should find out what they can do on their own and swing into action. See in context

I just came back from the beach and the beach is absolutely covered in garbage due to the storm and all its runoff.

People often tell me most of the garbage comes floating over from China but that's just a lot of bull unless they all started using hiragana/katakana on their packaging.

People can "swing into action" by using a hell of a lot less plastic, discard garbage properly (not in the weeds next to the rivers), and push to have companies package their products w/ minimal amounts of plastic.

Posted in: Japan will be tough to beat at World Cup: Norway coach See in context

I've asked about ten people (all Japanese) if they're watching these games and I haven't had one yes answer yet. Guess the bandwagon hasn't gotten started yet. I'm glad I have. They're playing well.

Posted in: China's ex-foreign minister is gone but wait for explanation goes on See in context

I think what happened was that Qin, in one of the meetings said, "We're not honoring our promise about Hong Kong and maybe we're guilty of ethnic cleansing of the Ugiyers. What do you guys think?" Then the disappearance strangely began to happen...

Posted in: What do you think about Japan's pension system? See in context

I like the plan but lots of people opt out of it so it's not as effective as it can be. If it were automatically deducted from one's paycheck, it'd work better, just like Social Security in the US.

The National Pension people are rather too aggressive if a person falls behind a couple of months with intrusive phone calls, mail notices and even once a visit from to my house.

Posted in: Millions live with low back pain, but addressing risk factors like smoking, obesity and ergonomics could curb trend See in context

I've been using a stand-up desk for the past few years and it helps a lot.

I also have the option of sitting in a tall chair if I get tired of standing and working.

Doing a combination of the two seems to work best.

I also stretch my back when I wake up in the morning.

Lower back pain isn't inevitable.

Posted in: U.N. group says people abused by late Japanese boy band producer deserve apologies and compensation See in context

This should've been done three decades ago when this was first pretty well-known.

The media has been complicit with their silence.

The police and government mete out harsh penalties for just a bit of pot but completely let sex abuse slide.

...the Japanese government is considering stepping in and limiting how all seniors can use ATMs.

.....National Police Agency has proposed locking ATM use for any bank account held by someone over 65 years of age that hasn’t had a transaction in over one year.

Maybe the Jgov needs to keep their business out of people's private business regardless of how old they are.

It's their money. The vast majority of them handle their money just fine. I wouldn't want this overreaching beuracracy to tell me whether I can use an ATM or online banking or not.

Sapporo's faltering 2030 Winter Olympic bid victim of Tokyo Games scandals

As it should be.

Just as the 2020 Tokyo Olympics should have also been a victim of the '98 Nagano Games scandals, where the same kinds of collusion and bribery were committed and thousands of incriminating documents "disappeared" into thin air upon investigation.
