Posted in: Once you become addicted to drugs, you instantly lose other people's trust. See in context

Alcohol is by far the most destructive drug of them all, yet it is legalized and accepted as a normal part of society. All other drugs combined, both "soft and hard", can't hold a candle to the negative impact that alcohol has on the mental, physical and social well-being of society.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a shot of tequila now and then like anybody else, but I also know how to put "drugs" into their proper perspective. Addictions of all kinds need to be treated and not criminalized.

And just as a follow up... somebody (TV execs) should have realized that a "programming change" should have been and could have been done to show respect to the deceased. I'm sure they were aware of the "international" events that were going on.

I happened to see it on TV on the first day of airing and said to my wife, "Is that just a coincidence or did they decide this after the accident? And if it is the later, it is definitely in poor taste." Guess I wasn't the only one that noticed.

which officials subsequently announced had "caused a bad social impact" and broken the law.

Me thinks Xi Jinping needs to rethink the criteria for what causes "a bad social impact." Because what he did and is doing has a far greater "bad impact" on society than what anything a comedian could ever say.

Posted in: Man arrested for dangerous driving resulting in death See in context

When really a lot of the blame often times lies with the planners, designers and engineers. For unsafe, unlit, unmarked roads, pedestrians crossing at the same time as turning traffic, intersections with no line of sight one or both ways, narrow roads filled with obstacles, no sidewalks. And the cops for not enforcing traffic and cycling rules; red light running, stopping at pedestrian crossings, keeping left and so on.

Many times I had tried to put these thoughts into words. You did it quite succinctly. Well done.

Posted in: Man arrested for dangerous driving resulting in death See in context

Sometimes an accident is just that...an accident.

Again...how does one define dangerous driving in Japan?

Given the conditions and propensity for pedestrians to not give a second thought to their surroundings, I side with the driver not being liable.
