59-16 isn’t really a “rival”, but ok.

The rival is your own lies. You guys just can't comprehend.

One thing about Americans who (stupidly) voted for Trump in 2016: Ohio shows that they can rethink their Trump gaslight and think with sanity.

Neil wrote a book about a decade ago, 'waging heavy Peace'. A really good memoir book of astute observations and humor. He creatively writes, a gift he may have gotten in blood lines, as his father was a well known writer in Canada.

His music speaks for itself. A great songwriter and performer. My appreciation for Neil Young has enhanced my life, watching him play over the years with CSNY, my first concert I ever went to, along with his solo career and concerts, thereafter. Live at Massey Hall in 2007 was the first of his long series of releasing everything he has. At the time it was such a joy to listen to him when he was still starting out, and the voice of youth.

Neil's over saturated with all his releases, but he can do what he wants, his legacy obviously intact. I do look forward to listening to Chrome Dreams. it is the prime of his career, and I can always listen to Neil, if not in smaller doses.

Whether it's racing at the Kentucky Derby or a Samurai event, horses are mistreated.

Those race type horses are often bred as the elite stature of the species, but with human intervention, likely have underlying deficiencies that expose them to injury.

Horses naturally evolved, and not meant to be ridden, even though humans think so.

Humans always put ourselves over everything else. It's such a falsehood to think we are spiritual animals, when 'spirituality' exists with everything on earth, but we're the only things that have to consciously label it, and not naturally live it, like horses set free from the saddle.

Great to see Colombia go to the last 8.

Unfortunate we could not see Lauren vs. Linda, generational talents. James really did muck this up with a dumb red card stomping on Alozie.

France looks as strong as any team.

Japan looks like the favorite at this point. Sweden game should be epic with different styles of play, but their play against the USA was not elite, and Japan looks to be the better side. Still, a good day for the Swedes can win this game.

The best USA played but not enough.

Um, football works this way. The best team on the pitch loses, at times, and for all the talk USA forward failed, which they did, so did Sweden's, if that is the train of thought. The penalties are a crap shoot. Always has been, always will be. Either team can win those things...

When teams play a good match like this one, many fail to recognize just how well both sides played. It was the best played match in this WC, so far, imo, from both sides. I wouldn't be surprised to see Sweden go on and raise the Cup.

Posted in: U.S. loses to Sweden on penalty kicks in its earliest Women's World Cup exit ever See in context

USA played the 4-2-3-1 and double nine. Midfield and backs were very good and they spread the field, much better than the group stage. Sonnett surprisingly good, all over the field.

They outplayed Sweden, but couldn't find the net. It happens. Same with PK misses.

All this negative talk of Pino is trash. Complete and total trash. It comes from misogyny and their own narrative POV rather than understanding the game and Pino, with an open mind. But it's the status quo from certain commenters.

She not only helped football in America, but the world, in her stand for women, to improve the game. Truly a great icon, one of the best to ever play women's football.

Tough loss, and young players need to step it up, especially the forwards who showed skill but also lacking the mental part of strategy/execution along with what seemed a lack of mental tenacity. But they're young and with different coaching, can still quite possibly be effectively great in the future.

Girma was excellent throughout the WC. Most consistent player on team USA as a youngster and great future leader.

USA also has military contractors who do fight.

Not sure what this means in context to Niger. They aren't there to fight.

The situation right now is the USA is waiting on seeing what happens with the Niger government's actions toward the attempted coup, and it is still an attempt, not a clear cut coup where the military has for certain taken over the country.

It is also relatively peaceful in Niger, the coup is centered around the president's residence, so diplomacy is the first point of action to try and clear things up, without violence.

The USA troops of 1000 are not likely to engage in combat. For international community, democracy in Niger is important, as Canada has shown. USA will cut assistance as well, if the coup is determined to have taken power. It isn't certain, right now.

I still don't know what hmmmm means?

Posted in: Miyazawa scores her 5th goal of Women's World Cup as Japan beats Norway 3-1 to reach quarterfinals See in context

Socrateos:

Norway's top players are considered top 10 in the world. Helgerberg was a recent ballon d'or winner...declaring the best European Women's football player. Caroline Graham Hansen, make up 2 of Norway's players in the top ten, pre WC. They are superior players on the pitch and result wise over any of the Japanese players internationally, by result beyond the WC...

Norway kept it close, and Japan proved superior. It does not mean Japan was invincible nor could not have lost the game. With a bit of luck Norway, although outplayed, could have tied the game, they were close, twice, before Hinata's 3rd clincher. The key word is 'could'. Maybe it happens, maybe it doesn't. It is a possibility.

If history wins the game, there's no doubt the USA beats Sweden, as Sweden has lost every game to the USA in the World Cup. That's such a nonsensical argument...past results. According to your past history argument, which is completely flawed, USA has nothing to worry about.

The US forces have been there for a decade training Niger forces against terrorism. They are not involved as a fighting unit. This is at present, a diplomatic matter for the USA until a coup confirmation happens.

tbh, I'm surprised Socrateas you miss the point of what I wrote a few days ago, and obviously on your mind to bring it up after my post, which actually details why Japan was good and Norway lost. Interesting the next post to yours really backs me up, quite well...

So where are you, sunfunbun?

Exactly as I say.

Norway played Japan closer than many thought. It was a tight game. Japan is good, they found out with a Norwegian equalizer early, it was going to not be easy. Norways tactics weren't good enough, but Japan did not get behind, and they are good.

But will say this again, they are beatable. It isn't the slam dunk Japan fans seem to believe.

Spain is very talented. Their defensive play is iffy at times, and that own goal was one that showed the inexperience of the shooter and the goalie.

But, to come back from that gaffe to score, Codina got some redemption.

Spain, when on their game, has the talent to go far. The Japan game showed how they can be vulnerable to a when it rains it pours scenario, but they looked like contenders in this game, if they clean up the backs more.

The team and individual play of Japan is great to see. Coaching is good, as well. It was a controlling, dominant game by Nadeshiko.

Norway needed to try and attack in the 2nd half, but they didn't take the chances necessary to push forward enough. They had a couple of chances for the equalizer, but failed. From the start they were so cautious about the Japanese attack, the space they allowed Japan's backline may have tired out the Norwegians.

The first goal was a Norwegian own goal, but they were pressured from the beginning and looked vulnerable. It was a bit strange to see the lack of a clear tactic for them, and for better or worse, they kept setting up defensively in a 1-4-5 set that somewhat held Japan down, but only a matter of time till Nadeshiko scored, as there was no pressure on the ball and eventually, a player would have time and space to make a play for Japan.

Onto the quarters for Japan. A nice win. A long ways to go.

Posted in: Pence seizes on Trump's latest indictment as he looks to break through in crowded GOP field See in context

The GOP, to add on to HD, picks its lies to follow. It changes upon circumstance and who is doing the lying.

Problematic is the amount of false rhetoric the conservative media is now throwing out there with abandon. Places like Fox New are literally throwing out words lies that do the conservative thing, which is flip their agenda to the Democrats. It's a ploy of the Republicans, started with them somehow blaming the Democrats for the wrong war vs. Iraq, and again after the financial crisis, where Republicans caused the crisis to happen, Obama saved it, and they blamed Democrats.

Now the conservative media outlets are lying and saying exactly what the MAGA do, and they say it with force that the lying audience believes the lies. Truly Orwell predicted doublethink and it is happening as the GOP is succumbing to ignorance and not wanting real truths, but want to live in the other truth, as Kelly Anne Conway said as alternative facts.

The conservative rhetoric: The Biden White House is referred to as the “Biden regime.” Federal law enforcement are referred to as the “Gestapo” and Biden’s “personal police force.” Institutions such as the Department of Justice are referred to as “the Department of Injustice.” The indictments against Trump are referred to as “political war crimes” and an “assassination.”

It's obviously wrong. It flips the script and the irony the conservatives don't seem to understand is they are doing exactly what a dictatorial regime does. They are saying things a state run media, which eludes truth for lies and uses one sided rhetoric do. It's fascism the conservative media is catering to for the money they know they get from a feeble minded audience who want to only hear the lies.

Japan will go see Barbie when it opens here. It's too much pink for the young set not to go see it.

Oppenheimer probably won't play in Japan. Which is hard to believe, as Christopher Nolan is a great director and his films are well done, but Japan is Japan.

I've tried to have discourse on the war and bomb with the Japanese and inevitably they have a narrative and emotion, which leads to a talk that goes nowhere. I'd like the Japanese to critically think the issues of their role in war crimes, to give their words credibility, but avoiding truths and then arguing victimization is so hypocritical in nature, and it limits Japan greatly to cry when they made others cry much more.

Posted in: Japan eyes new system to fine cyclists for traffic violations See in context

Japan is not constructed, as a very condensed and space limiting road system, to all of a sudden become bicycle law aware. Tight roads, many one ways, traffic light systems not made for bicycles, and general jungle to get around by bicycle, especially in the big cities.

First thing's first. I've heard people think the sidewalk is where the bicycle is supposed to be. There is nothing of past Japan that says otherwise, because of the lack of space on the streets, no shoulder and being inches from rushing cars. Bicycles naturally ride on sidewalks, here. It's illegal in many other countries, and might even be here, I don't know, but if it is, how crazy to stop people on the sidewalks when there often is no road to ride on without being whacked by a car mirror.

If the streets and spacing allowed, more bike paths might happen, but logistically, it can't be done without a huge effort to redo streets. That isn't happening, and bike paths won't be a ubiquitous thing.

Essentially, with so many basic problems of roads and bicycle safety not being something the Japanese considered, when she should have, the infrastructure and the culture of waiting and waiting until problems occur, recent issues are a symptom, not the disease.

Japan often makes new rules based on system is already in place, but they don't address the cause, per se. There may be a slight alleviation for betterment. Maybe not.

It does not solve the problem and can be an annoyance from both ends people argue over and over.

Bill Barr on Trump is very interesting. He is a staunch Republican, through and through. He was being used as a puppet in the Justice dept. by Trump, and that is a black mark on Barr to allow his judgment to be questioned in lieu of Trump's thinking that the FBI should be controlled by him and be loyal to whatever he wants. Which of course goes against the 3 branches of government in our system of checks and balances. That alone is an indicator Trump doesn't want our democracy, he wants a fascist govt. led by himself.(it's proof positive that anyone who agrees with him and attempt of his bullying of the FBI wants a fascist govt., and only one part of a multi faceted attack on democracy by Trump).

Barr is adamant that Trump is guilty on the indictments, that they are legal and warranted, and that Trump should not be raising money(he claims to be a multi billionaire) from people so they, the poor, can feed his legal fees. What a gaslight by Trump on his followers, and they're too ignorant to understand the lies.

He states Trump should not be allowed to be anywhere near the Oval Office. Barr is not a fan of Biden. Neither am I. For me, though, still a much better an option than Trump. Barr makes the statement of Trump should not be anywhere near the White House, yet, doesn't say he wouldn't vote for him in 2024. It doesn't sound like he would, but who knows with the right, many are quite insane. Barr can sound sane, but then he can turn on a dime as shown when he was kissing up to Trump.

Soudan, my mother lived in Niigata during the war. She was a young girl and the girls there were given cyanide pills because they were told the heathen Americans would rape and pillage them.

But not so, the reasoning was because the Japanese military was raping and pillaging the Chinese and Koreans and Malaysians and every place they went, they grouped together women or raped them with the blessing of the Army and Japan. Often they killed them afterward. It's documented on film and writings.

There are many sides to what happened in Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Don't go just being all high on your alter decrying America, saying it was a war crime of murder, as if though you are ignorant to Japan's even more killings and evils in Asia. The lab of vivisection...much more cruel than even the Atomic bomb.

War is terrible, and the bomb was atrocious. But this is not a clear cut case of wrong or right as the Japanese were truly savage and pledged suicide to honor the emperor. US forces absolutely thought the Japanese were insane and any talk of the Japanese were ready to surrender can be countered by knowing the military attempted a coup to keep the war going. It was a crazed Japan and a time of trouble that the world does live in infamy.

Posted in: Japan trounces Spain 4-0 to top Group C at Women's World Cup See in context

The speed of the Japanese forwards says you can't play a defense far up and not able to match it. Spain made no adjustments to their game, and they were less skilled and quick in their play than they needed to be. The Spain forwards have some long run speed, but quickness in decision and play was lacking.l

Japan took advantage of Spain's aggressive, yet fruitless possession...77% of it. Quick counters which some great outlet passes, combined with Japanese speed/finish over Spain slow and out of position defenders made for an easy Japanese victory.

Spain's play was a bit of insanity. Japan did the same thing 3 times in the first half and Spain kept feeding into it. You cannot force the play agains the Japanese defense, you have to go wide and switch it up by bringing the ball back and not just going into the box trying to funnel a score. A major tactical and maybe skill error by Spain.

Japan was excellent, but remains to be seen if their 23% possession will work in the knockout rounds. Teams playing them have to be smarter. It's like Ali winning with the rope a dope....
