A teenage boy was stabbed after being attacked by four men in Tokyo’s Nakano Ward on Sunday night.

An eyewitness called 110 at around 10:20 p.m. and said four men had assaulted a teenager, Kyodo News reported. Police said the teenage boy sustained a knife wound to his left thigh. He was taken to hospital, but his wound was not life-threatening, police said.

Police said they are questioning the victim about whether he knew his attackers and the circumstances leading up to the incident.

They always say that gun possession is really restricted in Japan, see when they don't have gun. They'll find other way.

Just check street camera, especially because this crime scene in Tokyo, is not that hard to track those criminals.

The rebuttal here seems so obvious: the teenager is alive with non life threatening injuries. That’s the difference.

If this was America, he would have been shot along with about 40 other people.

Another day another stabbing. I'm just curious what people who think that Japan is a safe place will say about this?

@Nibek32 WHY AMERICA!! Had the kid got stabbed lets in the heart he still could have died. Regardless of the weapon used a knife or a gun a CRIME WAS COMMITTED yes he survived. You can survive a gun shot if shot in the leg!!! Your analogy is based on what could have happened and does not point to what did happen which was an ASSAULT on a kid with a DEADLY WEAPON that occurred in Japan!

Getting stabbed in Tokyo is rare, and it’s far better than being shot in NY

Stabbings and violence outside of what used to be contained mainly within organised crime is on the increase.

A lot of pent up rage ready to be released.

Simmering to boil.

What hooligans would do such a thing to an innocent teenage boy who was, judging by the time of the evening, on his way home from his juku cram school. The Tokyo police should probably investigate rival juku cram schools to see if perhaps renegade vigilante crusader teachers decided to teach the boy a lesson by stabbing him in his teenage leg. Tokyo is becoming more and more like the dumpy parts of London every day with these unprovoked stabbings.

This crime doesn’t have anything to do with the U.S. It’s true the U.S. is dangerous AND Japan is more dangerous than people think. Recently, my wife had a bad experience walking with our young kids in the neighborhood. She was threatened by some young guys who almost hit her on their motorcycle. They were drunk. The sad part about Japan, sad and unique, is that she screamed and no one nearby stopped to help her. She was right near a festival too. Yes, Japan is safer than many places but Japan is cold. If you DO get into trouble here, it’s very possible no one will help you because Japanese people are less likely to get involved. But, yeah, Japan can be compared positively and negatively with other places…as nauseam.

Japan is much safer than the US overall, but not much safer than most other developed nations. Some crimes are higher in other nations, some crimes are higher in Japan (e.g. sexual assault on public transport, upskirt photography, stalking etc.)

There is a very strong belief that it is safe due to statics that are inaccurate with extreme underreporting for many crimes (e.g. rape, murder, theft etc). There are complicated reasons for this that even most Japanese do not understand but comparing Japan to Western nations is not an apples-to-apples comparison.

Again, Japan safe, yes very much so. 'Safer', not really, no.
