Posted in: Cinema, TV, laser discs, video tapes, DVDs, streaming...what do you think will be the next way we view movies? See in context

"Better Streaming' with less compression I think - Will be nice when we can stream and download movies at the same bit rates as a 4K disc. And yes, VR Goggles/Headsets also, but with much improvement from whats on offer now, but again all dependent on much faster/stable Internet. Thats what is holding us back.

@nosuke: Unusual - but not 'never'. 3 bad ones in Tokyo in my memory. Sep 93, Sep 96, and Oct 19. Not disasters by any stretch of the imagination but shut downs of public transportation and shops and plenty of debris in the streets.

@Zoroto: Hence YCC adjustment. And the 'cost' of intervention is never as vast as it seems. What do you think the BOJ did last time, just sat on it and took the loss? You don't think they spent the next few months recouping the dollar reserves quietly and slowly at and actually probably taking a profit?

@EFD: I don't think anybody thinks its a good 'look' - but they keep coming. Illegally. Where on earth are the Uk supposed to house them any longer when its own citizens can't even get social housing when needed and end ups living in Bed and Breakfasts? The comparison to Ellis Island is one of the most poorly thought out comments I have read , and the poster clearly has no idea of the situation as is.

At least they are being roomed and fed.

@CuteUsagi...Sadly for you, I'd think you'd see intervention before 150, let alone 160.

The action has stopped the yen weakening further. As expected.

That's very presumptive of you @Moonraker. Never seen that printed anywhere. Or is that just some old fashioned belief that ice skaters must be 'gay'? Perhaps he likes to keep his private life exactly that.

Brush up on your social skills.

Yes @Eastman, that's how or works. Even a public servant in opposition receives a salary funded by you and he is of course entitled to holiday. What are you so upset about.

Good to see that everyone is a strong supporter of Taiwan! I intend to live there one day.

Posted in: From what you have seen in Japan's major cities this summer, do you think there are too many foreign tourists visiting the country for the industry to handle? See in context

It's insane in Central Tokyo - It's only because I have frequented some places for so many years that I am still able to get reservations at relatively short notice.

Coming back to Haneda as I have several times this year for us residents is bad enough. As a tourist it looks like utter hell.

Tokyo ( I cannot comment on the rest of Japan) was totally unprepared for the double whammy of a all covid immigration restrictions being lifted AND a much weakened Yen at the same time.

Aly and Wallace - You see no tourists because there is nothing to see for tourists. In Aly's case,, people are hardly going to visit the suburbs ( no disrespect) and in your case @wallace, no one is going to visit a pensioner town where there is nothing to see but a Costco and a Gyomu,

Posted in: BOJ eases grip on ultra-loose monetary policy See in context

@onedragon: Dollar/Yen should be 180? Why? It's headed back to 130 if anything and unless there is an explosion in US inflation and further rate rises there, we may not see 145 again this year.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Posted in: BOJ eases grip on ultra-loose monetary policy See in context

They didn't 'do' nothing, as you will have seen the effect on the currency. The less they defend yields now, the stronger the Yen will become especially if inflation slows down in the US and the FRB tapers rate increases.

What is it then? Actually sounds like free speech to me, since it is your opinion on something. And remember what happened during the pandemic with the control of information by governments and organisations in working in tandem with social media companies?

No - please enlighten me.

Posted in: Musk says Twitter to change logo to X from the bird See in context

Elon Musk is an incredibly smart guy - Even smart guys make mistakes. Bill Gates didn't buy Google (for example) He made a mistake buying Twitter. Period. He didn't want it, but his ego took over and was left with no choice. Twitter did not silence any free speech, they silenced far right, and far left nonsense, including wildly damaging conspiracy theories about many things. That's it. Conspiracy theories belong on the dark web away from 90% of the population who for some bizarre reason buy into this nonsense. That's NOT free speech. There is a difference @bass. That's how dangerous people come to power.

I don't think he actually cares tbh. He did try to back out of buying it anyway. Its a plaything for him..and becoming more irrelevant day by day. In two years time it will just be a platform for the FAR right to freely voice their views.

I too, Enjoy discovering new music and artists and with streaming and the plethora of live houses in Japan, it's certainly the place to do it. To call it superior however is wrong. Different, Yes.

When your 'industrial' compositions of now, are still being played 60 years from now then get back to me.
