When I first came to Japan in 2005, a beer in an izakaya cost 500 yen.

It still costs 500 yen now in 2023.

Petrol has gone up.

Rent has barely increased since 2005.

If we look at the core core inflation ,which is the important one, it is now at 4.2 % in Japan versus 5.5 % in the Eurozone and 4.8% in US (in addition  Japan rate  is rising while US and Eurozone falling). What is the BOJ waiting to take action? Do they want to do nothing now and then have to raise rates very aggressively like in the US and Eurozone because they started taking action  too late? Why can’t they learn anything from other central banks. Ridiculous.

Energy prices dropped 6.6 percent from a year earlier, helped by the government's support programs and stabilizing crude oil markets.

And yet despite the govt subsidies the gas station prices are at its highest ( whilst wholesale price of crude is way lower than last year ) and electricity bills went up for everyone from June. How is that for J- Inc ripping of consumers?

While real wages (wages adjusted for inflation) regrettably continue to fall. Frustrating.

Ditto for me too, but I first came in 1995.

The year before I came the movie Pulp Fiction was released. There was a part in it where a "five dollar milkshake" seemed so outrageously expensive at the time, it was worthy of evolving the whole scene around it.

Then I came to Japan, and a five dollar milkshake was the norm... just the same as now. But in LA, where Pulp Fiction was based, nowadays 5 bucks could barely get you a glass of ice water.

When I came in 1996 a beer cost ¥500 but now in 2023 you could find one for ¥330...

I should add that is a slightly smaller ¥330 beer. But the cost of a night out really hasn't changed that much in 30 years. Sadly neither have salaries.

So why I can’t eat out any more and drink on the beach with cheap alcohol?

The London Living Wage is currently £11.95 an hour -- that's roughly 2,150 yen. Tokyo workers feel lucky if they get 1,200 yen. A sad state of affairs.

Really you have to accept that Japanese companies just won’t raise wages so you have to get a second job to stay ahead whether permitted or not.

This doesn't tell the true story. The ACTUAL REAL price hike is 75% increased in all prices compared to 2-3 years ago, taxes went up, gas, water, electricity, al went up by 50% in less than 3 years. That's the truth. While salaries are the same or worst...

Are you speaking for everybody, or anecdotally about your own experience. If it's for everyone, where are you getting these numbers?

This just isn't true. Elect, gasoline, LPG, Kerosene all up from last year.

I've reduced energy costs at least 20% by investing in a few solar panels and home batteries.

It's been shockingly easy to save money, even while energy prices continue to increase.

Among notable gainers, food prices surged 9.2 percent, in a blow to households. Durable household goods jumped 6.7 percent.

Certainly the prices of fresh food have risen

Last month fresh veg was way up

This month the seasonal produce is increasing and prices are in fact down.

I note 10-20% decrease

Foreign imports that used to cheaper are now more comparable with Japanese domestic produce

We are definitely feeling the inflation in my household.

Can get beers runs my manor for 180 Yen 5-7pm 300 yen outside those hours. Still very cheap in Japan.
