Yak extortion gone too far?

I'm no expert, but sounds like Yakusa.

Used to live in Nagata, lovely place & lovely people but the yaks were everywhere. At a restaurant we used to visit regularly I was told it’s ok to park my car in the road, 100% I won’t get a ticket. The owner eventually told me he paid the yaks who paid the police not to give tickets outside restaurants they were “taxing”….

Will have to look for a different place to lunch.

Nagata is the home of Tetsujin-28 statue.

Investigative sources said the man could be linked with a yakuza crime syndicate and a feud between rival gangs.

Could be linked? Meaning that it is possible he is not linked? Or should it be, was linked, or maybe had been linked. Let's be straight here and not so ambiguous! I think these "investigative sources" need to investigate a little better, otherwise it's just a cute way of saying "there are rumors" he was connected.

Whomever paid these sources, should get a refund!

Hmmm no mention of the gun, just the shooter.

Quality comment there, babe. Good on ya!

The yakuza should understand that in this time of surging raw material costs, jacking up 所場代 ain’t the smartest idea in their tool box. Caught between those pressures and ramen’s elasticity of demand, the poor shop owner didn’t stand a chance.

Pretty gutsy to whack a guy with a gun in Japan. Must have been trying to send a message.

Probably the owner did not want to pay the extortion money, and he payed the price.

That and the fact that shop owner have absolutely ZERO protection from police here, which are Yakuza's puppies...

It is sad to see this crime event, and the article mentions that yakuza may be involved. Yakuza has to have legal business to make clean their transactions, do they use restaurants?

Possibly. So not only was he skimming the fat off the top of the ramen stock broth for the ramen noodles, but also the profits from the money laundering. However, if the Yakuza are using a ramen shop it sounds real rinky-dink.

Gun stuck in his mouth and then trigger pulled.
