So, 7 divers, including 2 instructors, went missing while drift diving....

This is not normal. Not at all. Particularly when they were found near where they were reported missing.

Seems to me that the diving company / boat operator needs to be investigated, as this should NEVER happen. So many people missing on a drift dive is unthinkable!!

As a diver myself, getting lost drifting to the sea is very scary and they are lucky to be found alive. You pay money to a diving company precisely to avoid such accidents, and I hope a proper investigation will be conducted.. The instructors should be familiar with the area, the currents and the potential hazards, and keep communications with the boat.

The Japanese Coast Guard is amazing. Despite the ineptitude of the instructors and idiot divers, the JCG, without fear, hesitation or discrimination, boldly and bravely rescued them just a few hours after their S.O.S. Does anyone else remember when Japanese divers died during a drift dive? Perhaps not doing drift dives is the way to go. Due to nasal issues and malocclusion I don't SCUBA, but I do snorkel and NEVER mess around in currents. It is lucky the Coast Guard was there to help.

I love drift diving. I ususlly do three dives a day in Okinawa.. In the first dive, it is usually in a calm shallow place. At such a dive, I check out the boat driver and the dive masters. If I can trust them, I can escape planet earth and it’s misery and enjoy the amazing wonders of nature. If the staff are not good, I follow the dive master about 5 meters behind, because I know they don’t want to die.
