The CIA, NSA, NRO, DIA and all of the other acronymic agencies can just fax the information to Japan. That's probably as secure as it gets!

Have the hard copy of Yamap - great little book, with many useful tips. Maps are detailed with contour lines, so if you can read them, it gives you an idea of the terrain and climbs. A magnifying glass is useful too, as the maps are detailed, but rather small.

And yet over 65 year old citizens are encouraged to keep working! How will they manage their payments without ATM access? Another less than intelligent idea from J-Gov and J-police.

Probably just a "Business Improvement Order" - stop buying cars to sell for a few months - plant a few trees - get a few directors on their knees bowing in abject apology - then back to business as usual as the MSM looks at another issue.

Ise Grand shrines are disappointing, no photo signs every where and high fences and walls, but at the outer shrine is a great museum showing how everything is built, with real examples. Well worth the trip.

That will go down very well with the folks in the fragile Kei cars hogging the middle lane at 60 kph, swaying in the vortex of trucks flying past, oblivious to traffic around them.

Educate drivers to use the innermost left hand lane more, and only use the outer lanes for overtaking, and move back in after completing the manouevre.

I wonder if the IAEA have the authority to stop the discharges if the monitoring shows unacceptable levels of radioactive elements in the discharged water?

Or do they just report it to TEPCO and J-Gov, who plead for understanding of a temporary glitch?

The IOC, FIFA, and other global sport organisations with huge, non-transparent budgets and linked to television/ broadcasting and sponsorship seem very susceptible to leaders abusing their positions for monetary gains. Since 1998...and no real change.

Posted in: IAEA chief visits Fukushima before radioactive water is released See in context

The report itself is high quality, well-formatted, nicely written, clear tables and illustrations; but it is not an approval from IAEA, as PM Kishida, his goverment and the nuclear authorities try to make out. The IAEA make it very clear that that is up to the Japanese government and TEPCO.
