More precise is those producers is tricking consumer to buy smaller items with same price, some of their customer are aware while others are not.

Or is it more like the customers have given up and are paying whatever you charge them as they know they will always lose out. Domestic beef has gone from Y198/100g to Y298/100g more than a 50% increase. There is no reason for such a huge increase, but if people want to eat beef, you pay the price.

Maybe because many prices in Japan are considerably lower than in other developed countries. Just ask the flood of foreign tourists coming here now.

I saved a lot by getting rid of the car and all the related taxes and expenses. Shop more at the supermarket and not convenience store and prices are 20-30% lower but a bit inconvenient. Eat mostly pork and almost no beef.

There's really no choice, is there? I wouldn't call it "acceptance."

I love that line -
I've got this image of a bunch of shoppers saying - "Well hell yeah, we've been saving for too long now, let's get out there and Shop!!!"
As if.
And maybe people aren't complaining about the prices at department stores, because perhaps they are loyal customers who can either afford it, or would never complain, or both.
Take a step out of the Ginza-esque world and you'd find a different discussion altogether.

Mostly rich people shop at Hankyu and Hanshin department stores. Their customers could easily save money if it mattered to them by shopping elsewhere.
I only say "mostly" because I used to really like an "ikayaki" pancake sold in the basement of the Hanshin store, which was only 200 yen.

Are you sure about that? Beef doesn't miraculously materialise on supermarket shelves by itself. What about all the costs involved with producing it and getting it to the consumer? Rises in those costs will affect the retail price.
As for the quote of the day, this is one of the most ridiculous explanations for people resigning themselves to higher prices. It's like me "taking a break from enough sleep" to make sure I meet deadlines and keep customers. Sheesh.

I think the rise in beef prices may reflect higher imported grain prices.

This is why department stores are a failing business, we have clueless bums like Naoya running the show.
Mr Kipling
Higher grain and fuel cost brought on by the failed sanctions on Russia.

maybe they’re not complaining, verbally, in stores.
but most people will show their opinions with their purchases. You won’t see them buying BS goods anymore.
just the bare necessities.
I mean, you’ll still have the same morons buying 30,000 yen square watermelons or 2 million yen tuna or whatever it is.
but the common man will definitely stop buying double cheeseburgers and extra noodles in their ramen.
