Big up to NZs Football Ferns on making history! First ever WC win - against a former winner no less. The 9 mins of added time seemed like an hour, well done on hanging on! Congrats to Hannah Wilkinson on finding the back of the net.

Hopefully not the last win this WC for the Football Ferns!

A good win to both host nations as New Zealand defeated Norway, while Australia defeated Ireland 1 - 0 thanks to a second half penalty.

Some great football on display in the first two games with much more yet to come.

Zero mention of this on NHK tonight. Guess Japan aren't in it so they couldn't be bothered.

But if there was just one Japanese involved, everyone would be an instant women's football fan.

Indeed.... NHK is only showing the Japan games and today's opening match, but even then only because the ref was Japanese. The rest of the tournament is being totally ignored. Thankfully, everything is available, and with English commentary, on the Fifa website.

The referee and two assistant referees were all Japanese.
