Glad that Sweden made it but Japan played a honourable tournament.

And this where our national taxes end.

These ultra right wing revisionists from the elite LDP will certainly have their moment of proud to give “old glory” to their past family members.

Meanwhile the Yen is sinking and the welfare so as the wages are untouched,to don’t mention the inflation.

Good move from Germany to join these joint military operations with other democracies such as Australia,Japan and the U.S.

China and Russia are aware that their militaristic hawkish expansions will have a limit in every continent and region of the world.

The guy like Abe wants to portray himself in a strong instance in foreign politics to compensate the extremely poor performance of himself and his hawkish party in domestic politic.

I was shocked when I made an exchange rate of my monthly wage in Euro and noticed that my income which is average here became extremely low compared to a northern european one (germany-denmark)

The BOJ is doing an excellent job in sending this country into poverty.

wolfshineToday  07:32 am JST

Ghosn - come back to Japan and have your day in court. Otherwise there will always be suspicion over your conduct.

Still simping for the Nippon Kaigi types that want all foreigners in Japan to be broke and miserable, huh?

Carlos Ghosn committed one cardinal sin, which was leading Japanese people as a foreigner in Japan. They may never admit it, but nothing makes Japanese people seethe more than seeing a financially successful individual from a foreign land that they have to report to and take orders from. Because everything has to be done their way.

I wish Mr. Ghosn great success in his efforts.

I totally agree with you,and let me add that this is also why foreigners with great skills should avoid an outdated and narrow minded place like Japan.

Japan wants to be involved in things that is not part of.

The bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki and it’s innocent victims should never be forgotten and it must be a reminder how humans are capable to build such horrific weapons of mass destruction.

Saying that,we also must recognize that the ultra right wing nationalist government of Japan is trying to portray Japan as a victim of the last world war brainwashing it’s citizens as victims of a bling attack.

It is 2023 and the inquisition era (fortunately) is over.

What problem is to accept people with different sexual orientations?

As a heterosexual I have absolutely no problems with any sexual gender.

People should be judged by their actions in life and to be honest it is about time to give full family recognition to marriages of same sex and give them the same rights as everyone.

Japan it is time to change.

TobleroneToday  11:22 am JST

US/NATO created the circumstances where Russia had to move to defend itself against relentless US/NATO expansion. Its as simple as that.

Is that so? Then I think that you and I live in a parallel world because in this dimension the Russian Federation started a bloody invasion against a peaceful country like Ukraine, stealing it’s territories and killing and murdering thousands of Ukrainian civilians and children!

Your comment is totally rubbish,oh and Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin is a pig, bloody dictator and a mass murderer.

I really find disturbing some posters here bashing NATO due to the US “imperialism”

Then why don’t you all join the Russia-China-Iran-North Korean axis right?

So much freedom and “democracy” in these peaceful countries and you’re all free from the american-european “imperialism”.

Honestly I prefer to live under these so called “imperialists” where at least I can raise my voice and contest them than in one of these “paradises” like Russia or China where it you try to criticize their governments you either end up in a boot camp or even under ground.

Posted in: EU commissioner says Japan's gender equality decades behind Europe See in context

The European Union is a perfect example in many ways about how true democracies and equality should be. Mr.Schmidt made a wise statement to Japan which is notorious to make radical changes only through pressure from abroad. Also in my opinion Japan should look more as a role model to the European Union rather than the USA. The EU excelled in human rights, justice system and equality of job opportunity among all these nations. Also I would add to some posters that said about how clean and safe is Japan compared to Europe and America that the EU in total is way safer than the US and that among the top 10 safe countries in the world seven are within the European Union.

The Yamaguchi No. 2 district was previously held by former Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi, Abe's younger brother. But he retired for health reasons in early February, and his eldest son, Nobuchiyo Kishi ran in his father's place.

This sums how the Japanese Daimyo politic works and how far is this from a true democracy.

But Japanese people keep voting them so they deserve what they get.

There is no hope for that country.

If it wasn’t for the West none of these “southern” countries would even have the option make a stand against Russia and China which are dictatorships.

I find amusing that some posters here are bashing the west for it’s past colonialism, but in human history all empires conquered.

Even non Western ones like the ancient Egyptians, the Persians,Mongols and even the Japanese.

At least European and Western nations brought civilization and progress.

If this post should be bashing the West then I wonder why most of these people want to come inside our borders to make a better life and don’t try to run to Russia or China.

The West is not perfect but at least you can say your opinion, even raise your voice and insult them.

Try to do the same in these non western “paradises”

Hypocrisy as it’s best.

The EU is not a country. Have you ever seen a passport from the EU?

Incorrect, because in my passport on the cover at the top even before my nationality it’s written in my language “European Union”

And this counts for the other 26 members as well.

MeiyouwentiToday  07:38 am JST

Hardly surprising. The fact that the European Union wasn’t mentioned in the video shows how irrelevant the EU has become in today’s world after Brexit and the war in Ukraine.

Irrevelant? A Union that has the third greatest PIL in the world, the second strongest currency after the US Dollar and a free exchange market,to don't mention the common laws and regulations that are shared between 27 countries.

The European Union is already a massive powerhouse and such comment shows ignorance about that institution.

Posted in: Fashion model Jessica Michibata released; boyfriend rearrested on drug possession charge See in context

You might not like system, but you can see why Japan’s crime rate is so low. You can call it oppressive and unfair, but the result is an incarceration rate of 30-something people per 100,000, compared to America’s rate of around 650 per 100,000

This comment is really worrisome.

In dictatorships like Nazi-Germany or Communist-China they had and have very low crime rates, but at what consequences for the people and their rights as humans.

This is not how democracy works my friend.

From that perspective, Japan’s system is much fairer than America’s. The fact that Japan’s criminal “justice” system has largely kept drugs out of Japanese society has saved countless lives from ruin, not to mention the lack of drug-related crime

What is the point to compare Japan’s legal system with the US?

It’s not related with the article.

Also the West is made by Germany,Norway,Sweden,The Netherlands with excellent and far more advanced legal system.
