They are calling for equal pay Will New Zealand is giving away tickets to World Cup events because of very poor sales.

Women, get out there and support, buy tix and go see the game.

This is basically like all male musicians demanding the same paycheck as Taylor Swift.

Pretty sure the likes of U2, Metallica and others get as much or more for their tours. I'm not sure about the logic of that

They sure are! Already the most tickets sold for any women's sporting event in history. Good luck getting tix to one of the big games!

Fighto!

I should really have left out the word male. My point is that salaries in sports are based on popularity and performance. That's why not every player in the EPL makes the same money as Haaland.

I'm all for womens right and support the attempt to further popularize women's sports but demands for equal pay make no logical sense. It's cart before the horse.

@Capuchin - fair call. I think any pay issues should be put off until after the WC. Let the focus be on the football, which I hope is going to be top notch!

Australia v Ireland on Thursday night in front of 80,000.

Japan plays Zambia on Saturday.

Good luck to all teams!

Fighto. Don’t know where you are getting your info on tickets sale. In New Zealand 20,000 have all been giving out free. As the cup goes on and you have Spain v South Africa in the semifinals in NZ while in the middle of their rugby season good luck in even giving away ticket to a International women soccer which involves a NZ team. The same in Australia an international women soccer cup semi not involving Australia will do poorly in the middle of the NRL / AFL season. They will giving away tickets the day after it’s kick off. Very bad time of the year to hold this event in Australia / New Zealand. Financial it will not break even. To book these venues during peck season and not fill them up Then to give out tickets isn’t going get you into the black. Then to demand equal pay is equality gone stupid.

The openers and final are already sold out - the Aus opener being at the Sydney Olympic Stadium with an 83,500 capacity.

More tickets sold than any other women's world cup in history.

As for tickets being given away in NZ - its a promotion in a market that is growing. Do you realize thousands of tickets were given away in Japan to junior rugby clubs etc for the non premium games in the 2019 Rugby World Cup? It ended up being arguably the best Rugby World Cup ever - with a brilliant atmosphere. The promotion was worth it.

And this will be the best women's football world cup I'm sure. Can't wait till Thursday!

Fighto: All PR BS for promotion. It known as the giveaway World Cup in town. No doubt it will be the best World Cup ever held because it is in The home of Sport Australia. But they will not own up to 100,000’s of tickets give away. But spout out how successful the events it was.

@ John - no problem then, don't watch it. It'd make you even more miserable.

Millions of us will, many of those being girls looking up to - and being inspired by - their idols. The huge boost the Lionesses gave to girl's participation in football in England after winning the Euros was priceless. We will see the same in this WC I'm sure.

Wishing the footballers of the 32 participating teams at the FIFA World Cup in Oz and NZ - all the very best in their efforts to lift their game to the next and a higher level.

World Cup set for lift-off with women's soccer at all-time high

For a sport where they have to give away thousands of free tickets just to have decent crowds in the stadiums?

Seems to be quite popular these days, shame it’s rubbish to watch, lol
