Posted in: What are some scenic sites or nature spots in Japan that you had long heard about, but disappointed you when you saw them for the first time? See in context

None so far.

For me was the opposite, all the travel places live up to the hype. Maybe just when it's too crowded and the long wait in line, it was quite tiresome and stressful (places like Universal Studios, Disneyland, etc could be so packed and the line for attractions are long on popular rides).

Some places could be very underrated too. Some beaches in Okinawa was mind blowing beautiful for me but wasn't that really heard of.

Posted in: Do you ever worry that robots or AI will become so powerful one day that they will destroy humans? Or does that only happen in movies? See in context

I'm not worrying about anything as I won't be alive that time. Just enjoying the present. Life is too short to worry about things.

Posted in: Making health care affordable to all is a big political issue in many countries. What do you think is the best way to achieve this? See in context

Free or cheaper health care for lower income households. Subsidy from the higher income or tax the corporates to give back to the poorer. Health as in life should always be the priority in humanity.

Instead of paying for smiling lessons, they should just travel to poorer nations like SE Asians countries or India and see that people there no matter what conditions they're living in can purely and beautifully smiles from their heart even the children. Not some fake *ss forced first world smiles from training and lessons. It's actually quite yabai if even smiles required learning. Learn from those who do it from their heart and sincerity.

"Kohechi connects Kumano with Koyasan. This mountaintop route is long and challenging, and consequently should not be undertaken without careful preparation. Inns are rarely found without zigzagging up and down the mountainsides into valley towns, greatly increasing the distance traveled. Kohechi was used mainly by Buddhist monks from the temple complex of Mount Koya." ...quoted from japan-guide.com

She's prolly staying in Koya san (Wakayama) heading to Kumano Hongu Taisha...Kumano Kodo is between Wakayama, Nara and Mie...

Posted in: What do you think of "kei" cars which are popular in Japan? See in context

Kei has its pluses and minuses, personal opinion:

Plus : Cheaper tax, fuel efficient, cheaper etc toll price, good manuverablity in smaller streets...special parking space for kei cars only in some parking areas...Good for short distance trips, dropping the kids to school or classes, nearby groceries shopping...

Minus: 660 cc is not enough power when running in highways especially when bringing the whole family, small trunk space couldn't fit much stuffs...would prefer suv or wagon mpv for longer travel and rides....

cafe: tully's and costa is nice...komeda, starbucks is okay...

vending machines : the canned or bottled one tastes weird, but freshly brewed is decent...

Goes from pro-Ghosn to anti-Ghosn within an hour.

that i was referring the money Nissan made in China counts as profit and revenue, as stated otherwise by other post.

was anti ghosn all the way, he was to blame from stealing too much from Nissan buying luxury houses, party, investment loss, lavish lifestyle etc, thats so corrupt and just blatant abuse of power, now Japan Inc had to make up for the mess he made. If there is to blame, its Ghosn for not using fair share of his earning but instead spend for his greed by taking what was not his right at the first place.

Nissan which was Japan's second biggest carmaker is an "underdog"?.. Oh, pleeeease.

some guy that stole from nissan and bought luxury houses, party and paid for his investment loss predicted they will be bankrupt by 2020, clearly not many is favoring them making comeback at the moment.

Woo, that's nice. You ought to thank us tax payers for propping up your shares via a ¥130 bil state loan guarantee.

thats my money too, stimulus package work if only they have the will to work and make a comeback.

let byghosn be byghosns guys, dude stole too much from Nissan for his lavish lifestyle and Japan inc had to inject stimulus to make up for that damage.

This is outrageous, we are trashing tax payers money in a private company that is heading to certain death.

Suga is native Yokohama hence the support to save the local brand with their technology that once produced some legends in automotive industry, ie. Skyline, GTR, etc

Every foreign company in China yields no profit back to their home country because all of the revenues and profits are immediately re-invested into China. The CCP has strict capital control, so Nissan won't ever get its profits out of China.

its a global market now, they have had big presence in China, US, India market since Ghosn era that counted as profit, global market is now what nissan is aiming and the french renault own like 40 percent of nissan anyways.

its too early to call their death if they still have plenty weapons under their belt.

and this turnaround made while only releasing Kicks this year.

for buy low sell high stock investor like me nissan is a better pick for further future gain with their current discounted stock price.

patience and never giving up is key and lets watch the underdog revive from their slump once they release their flagships next year.

siding ghosn or toyota is not paying my bills, but i have just profited from nissan shares that went up this morning, and so far we are happy with our serena taking us for doraibu to nice places in Japan running to a hundred thousand kms with no sign of breaking.

watch out Tesla. Aria and Leaf will be tough contenders for Chinese market next year.

we'll see if nissan will go bankrupt in 2022 as ghosn predicted.

nissan selling well in china, looking to turn the table once they release aria in japan, navara, rogue in the us, magnite in india and they have some new models to be released worldwide next year .

I own a serena, and honestly still our favorite car for the family, and nissan makes quality cars.

looking to buy Aria when its two or three years down the market, with slashed price like Leaf, cant go wrong with electric suvs now they can run 500kms per charging.

Posted in: What do you like about the way Christmas is celebrated in Japan, and what don't you like about it? See in context

I like the Christmas cakes, illuminations, grilled chicken and seeing my kids happy faces when we got them Christmas presents.

One suggestion maybe more people singing live Christmas carols in the streets would be nice.

Nothing that I don't like as the only thing I'll ever need for Christmas is the joy of my family.

Taipei, Seoul and Shanghai also felt safe when we visited with the whole family. The subway or MTR was easy and convenient to use, public infrastructure very clean, friendly people and service in general.

Japan, Singapore, Hongkong felt very safe. In Japan, I've seen kids taking trains just by themselves, women walking home alone from work at night and elderly also could go everywhere on their own. Which won't be the case in some other countries as I've heard cases of kids getting kidnapped, women raped and elderly beaten elsewhere.

Posted in: How do you (or did you) discipline your young children? Did you ever hit them? See in context

We were seated to a family right across us at chinese diner, Gyoza no Osho the other day. They were with their 3 children, 11-12 years old son and 2 younger ones. The eldest son went berserk when the mom wouldn't comply with son's okawari for another glass of Coke when they were almost done with their meal.

He repeatedly yelled " baka (stupid, fool!), shine (die!)", threw chopsticks on his mom's face, cursed, kicked his mom many times on the thigh (we're all seated to a zaseki style sitting) while the dad just watched and said "yamete". I was like what......

Mum was just quiet and didn't even say anything. Everyone were staring at the scene in shock and awe, like jawdropped. I would have showed the boy who's the boss, if I were his dad (it's not going to be them bossing me around).

Well, to those disagree with hitting kids, good luck with talking to those kind of kids.

Posted in: How do you (or did you) discipline your young children? Did you ever hit them? See in context

Abuse and torture is different with discipline. Spoil your kids and that's how you get rotten apples. Torture your kids you get poor traumatic souls. Disciplining them, they will thank you later in their lives.

I was the latter, with my parents. It was owing to their guidance, at least I'm a better man today. They say good medicine tastes bitter.

I have 2 children. The older one is in elementary school and younger one a toddler.

They will usually be given time out or grounded for misbehaving.

I had hit them before, but in area not dangerous to jeopardize his safety like spank in the butt.
