They naysayers were wrong in their pre-tournament assumptions

To be fair, their narrative has changed.

The initial claim that ‘nobody’ is interested in it has been dismissed with the speed it deserved. Risible nonsense from sulking teenagers.

We are now at the stage where it is claimed that the only people who watch it do it through guilt.

I heard one beauty that people have in on the telly but don’t really watch it. I thought that was quite adorable.

I think we would be better arguing is women’s football a more popular spectacle than many men’s sports.

It already is and it’s still growing

But good for women's sport. Men have been successfully guilted into pretending it is as exciting as men's sport.

No guilt.

For me, women’s football is the second most exciting sport to watch after men’s football. Men’s rugby is probably third.

The viewing figures for the women’s game blow many men’s sports out of the water.

What sports do you watch mate?

If it’s so certain Trump is losing why won’t anyone give me those 6:1 odds on the betting site I got in 2016?

You want to bet on US elections when the Democrats are cunningly adept at stealing them? Sounds very dicey to me. One of the fighters has horseshoes in the gloves.

People improve with practice.

Can you imagine how good the Democrats are at this now?

Frightening.

the people will vote and absent any election irregularities, Trump will win

What makes you think there will be no ‘irregularities’? You are not being clear here.

Trump has claimed ‘irregularities’ in four separate elections ( if I’ve missed any, I apologize). As far as I know, you are on board with these claims.

I still don’t see how you can be so confident.

Trump persists in falsely claiming he won the November 2020 election although dozens of court cases and state probes have found no evidence to support his claim

Need more modern-day Galileos.

Trump will do absolutely anything to stay in the news

Quite clever actually

He’s great at playing the media.

I’m not sure if firing off trash of this nature on social media is advisable here though.

He was good at ridiculing and humiliating the wives of his opponents in the past.

His supporters loved that and it it kept him in the media.

Safer than this.

Clothes are a waste of money

?

I can’t imagine the police will accept that reasoning if you are sitting on the train starkers.

Levi's are heavier than other brands, so they aren't as comfortable in warmer climates

The regular ones are a bit heavy but I bought a pair of Levi’s light jeans for summer for about ¥10,000 in Japan about 3 years ago. Good quality. It’s worth paying a bit more for the durability.

Something like a possible military coup? Sounds like you are really excited about this speculative and vague statement.

Could you give us a link to this so we can check it out for ourselves?

Thanks in advance.

Is it really or is this the usual leftist hyperbole? Would love to hear from people who actually use it.

I use it.

I like the parody accounts and the footy.

It is a bit of a cesspool of sock-puppets, trash ‘influencers’, conspiracy theorists, xenophobes and misogynists. I haven’t come across any Nazis.

A lot of dregs on there.

New Zealanders seem largely unaware of just how damaging their government's draconian, hostage-style measures were to the once-positive international reputation of their country

I remember the non-New Zealanders getting hysterical about Ardern.

I don’t think they’d be any use to New Zealand as citizens. I can’t imagine they’d be big-spending tourists either.

No great loss.

NZ would be an absolutely horrible place to live nowadays due to their government policies and overreach.

Sounds a bit hysterical.

New Zealand is always ranked very high in terms of being a fine place to live.

People have a right to their own opinions even if you disagree with them

Very true.

What is equally important is to evaluate the opinion itself.

Some seem to think that an opinion has merit merely because someone has the right to express it.

Iam curious if the book is a victimized type of story somewhat one sided or if it encompasses what was happening globally at that time and what caused the war in the first place

Have you read a lot about WW2?

What books would you recommend?

For the true believers, there often seems to be a “them” that’s holding humanity to ransom - Big Guv, Big Science, Big Farmer, Big Bird - and they fancy themselves as crusaders of justice fighting the good fight against these nefarious and shadowy entities. Exciting stuff

That’s an interesting take.

A lot of virtue-signaling is at work in these crusades against ‘them’.

One problem I’ve often come across is getting people to explain exactly who the ‘them’ are. I sometimes just get ‘the elites’.

Unhelpful.

Well then if gender is merely a social construct, how can someone be born the wrong gender?

Do explain. You can link to a rightwing North American podcast if it saves time.

It would be nice to think they are just having a bit of fun on the internet, because the thought of them actually believing the stuff they say is quite sad and worrying

Some are just bored and looking to be contrarian for the sake of it.

Others have had their egos tickled to the point where they compare themselves to Galileo.

This is what a lot of the ‘alternative media’ does - it can make very ordinary, often academically sub-standard people, believe they are doing what Galileo did.

A very good way to keep people watching and reading.

Hard to respect a country that hates love. What a backwoods dump

You do wonder about what some people in less bigoted countries think of the following:

Homosexuality is illegal in Muslim-majority Malaysia and laws criminalising sodomy are punishable by imprisonment, while LGBTQ people in the country also face regular discrimination by authorities

Some seem to be a bit coy about their views on this. The argument ‘their country-their laws’ has some merit but maybe this appalling treatment of the LGBT community does deserve a passing comment at least

There are about 10 American owners or part owners of Premier League Clubs and not all have been good for them including the current owners of Manchester United, the Glazers who have taken millions out of the club.

Hard for anyone to compete with oil barons/state-backing/sportswashing to be fair.

It's remarkable how cosmopolitan foreign footballers in the Premier League seem compared to their parochial British counterparts

True in a lot of cases. Vincent Kompany is very urbane. More eloquent in a second language than many are in their native language. Quite a few multi-lingual players. Lukaku is reportedly fluent in quite a few languages.

Sergio Aguero and Luis Suarez didn’t come across in the same way though.

That sounds very much like some creative marketing from the NFL

It does a bit but fair play. That’s their job.

It is reasonably popular though.

If it continues to grow, it might close the gap on say, women’s football in terms of viewership worldwide. NFL is an inferior product, but good marketing can do wonders.

He seemed like a pleasant chap, but I had not heard of him before. The NFL is not that big in the UK

I’d heard his name from US friends.

I gather he was very good at his sport and had a long career. Made a few quid.

Seems like a nice lad. Not so sure about the flasher mac and the shades though.
