Trump ceases to amaze how much attention he's able to generate , either positive or negative

He’s very good at playing the media. That’s his main skill.

He can also be funny although part of why it’s funny is that his behaviour is so childish and trashy and unusual for someone in his position.

A lot of it was ‘The president/former president of the US said what?’

You often find the types who were glad the US lost are the same types who tell us nobody watches or cares about the women’s game.

Anyway, decent tournament from Japan although I’m sure the manager would have given them a kick up the arse at half-time v Sweden.

Still, a young side. Definitely room for optimism.

”Yawn, wake me up when he spontaneously combusts”.

Hard to predict Liverpool this season - could be anything from 2nd to 7th.

Hope someone can stop City this season but can't see it.

I just hope Everton can reach mid-table mediocrity.

With a 4:30pm JST kick off, I'd hope most Japanese bosses will be giving their staff an early mark this afternoon!

As Wallace mentioned, it’s a public holiday in Japan. A ‘day off’.

Anyway, looks like an interesting game. The bookies have Japan as favourites here at a shade longer than evens.

@Yubaru

I wouldn’t get too bothered about nicknames.

Football players are not ‘Samurai’ either. They are football players.

The Aussie women’s team are not all called Miatilda. The England team are not large African carnivores either.

Posted in: From upsets to record attendance, these are the trends that have emerged at the Women's World Cup See in context

yet I find it totally unappealing and just part of a trend to make it seem that women are the same as men in all respects, when that is not the case

You are looking at this the wrong way. Very similar to those who watch rightwing North American podcasts and sulk - then get a bit hysterical and hissy about sport they don’t watch. It’s all very childish.

If the women played their nations international men’s teams they would lose about 20-0

Possibly. But again, get past the sulking and look at the product itself.

The women’s game is growing very impressively. It is already much bigger than many men’s sports in terms of worldwide viewership. Absolutely destroys many.

As you’d agree, football is without doubt the biggest and best sport on the planet. Could it reach a point where the women’s game is the second most watched sport after the men’s game? The growth has been extraordinary. Personally, I’d rather watch women’s football than men’s ice-hockey.

Anyway, the grown-up thing to do is say well done. Like you would to the Barbie director who has made an absolute blockbuster even if you are upset and sulking about it.

It’s more adult and worthy of respect.

The logical fallacy is to suppose that because he created us, he must necessarily approve of everything we do

So he created people with the desire to have sex with people of the same sex, but disapproves of them having sex with people of the same sex despite having created them with the desire to have sex with people of the same sex in the first place?

Did he do it to trigger himself?

The Swedish government is looking at whether its laws on maintaining public order could be modified. It has ruled out making it illegal to burn holy scriptures

I’d remove the word ‘holy’ from this.

Which ones are ‘holy’ is a matter of opinion for the religious themselves. They can often have very strong feelings on the matter. Some places actually ban some ‘holy’ scriptures they don’t like.

Best refer to them as just ‘scriptures’.

And the Chinese Flag as well as pictures of Xi.

This is a good point. I remember Turkey tried to pressure a European government to do something about a comedian ridiculing Erdogan.

Always tell these types where to shove it.

@CigarCowboy

The ‘fear porn’ line is so dull now. It’s been regurgitated too much.

It’s very rightwing North American podcast-ish.

The ‘liberals’ thing is getting boring. Not all live in a world of ‘libs v conservatives’ on every matter. I’m from a country ( the UK ) where we don’t think like this on every matter, particularly on matters to do with science.

Talk about a play on words. Why write about it then if it’s not like before unless of course you need to push that fear porn

Another one.

Yet again, the hysterical types are those terrified of Covid and those who see any article about it as spreading fear.

The latter are usually the most vocal.

Whether we won by default is open to interpretation

?

but we won because we missed less penalties than the other side.

I think the more usual way of looking at is England won because they scored more penalties than Nigeria in the shoot-out.

This method of settling a match has been used for decades and all teams entering the knockout stage are aware of it.

The more prepared teams should have their players practice pens. It is test of technique and nerve.

England edged Nigeria in this.

They go through. Simple.

Support Ukraine - profligate spending and warmongering. Potentially kicking off WW3.

England looked flat and out of ideas.

Nothing like the level they were at during the Euros. Still time to pick it up but that performance won’t make too many fear them.
