I knew a Japanese-American who visited Japan for a vacation when PearlHarbor was attacked. His name was Fred and was a young boy of about 11 or 12. Anyway, he was trapped and couldn’t get back to the USA. The secret police were assigned to keep an eye on him, he told me, and they became his only friends and protected him from the bullies full of anti-American propaganda. But he said the kempeitai were kind to him and probably felt sorry for him.

It’s strange that crew members were firing live ammunition with the prop guns in their free time near the set. It seems like a dangerous & unnecessary risk.

“The Chinese must need more hostages with which to conduct diplomacy.”

That’s really funny and a big reason why I have no desire to go there. There is very little difference between China, Russia and North Korea in that regard.

You've moved to another country, been granted citizenship and a dual passport, and then you decide to visit your home country which is a police state and in chaos to touch base with relatives who live there. Next, not surprisingly, these people get imprisoned on some BS charge and they demand that the U.S. government do something immediately to get them out of a country they had no business going to in the first place. Unless they were working for the U.S. government or CIA in some way, why should the government do anything? They're not all that different from the crazy U.S. soldier who ran into N. Korea a few weeks ago.

When Estevez came in to pitch in the final inning, it got a little scary. Luckily everything worked out. Now if the Angels could just go on a winning streak and win a Wild Card position, but it looks like they'll have to win 2 out of every 3 games they play now until the end of the season to do it. Oh, well, maybe next year....

Posted in: Biden issues an executive order restricting U.S. investments in Chinese technology See in context

Not sure who to trust less, the Russians or the Chinese. Thus, why give them means to use against us, especially should a war arise. Russia has invaded Ukraine and China threatens to do the same every day in Taiwan. They both look eerily similar to their earlier days in the 1940s and 50s. As for giving either of them technology which could be used to wage war, why give them the ammunition to blow our own heads off with? Not sure where it might be written, but there's probably some Sun Tzu quote that fits here like: Use your enemy's weapons against him. Anyway, it seems best not to arm them with technology that could end up creating anything lethal. Abraham Lincoln once said that to test a man's character, give him power. Well, we've tried to lift Russia and China since the so-called end of the Cold War, they've become economically stronger than they ever were before, and now look at them. They're both more arrogant and dangerous than they were before. Why should we empower them to make war upon others?
