“Another storm in a teacup”

Re: “Elaborate please” comment.

To elaborate for the commenter, I’d assume they mean another hyped up typhoon event, the likes of which have almost never amounted to much over the past 60 years. There were a couple scary ones about five years ago, one of which caused big problems for Kansai International Airport, but no comparison to those old time Japan. Basically, typhoons in modern day Japan are hugely over-hyped, and are something to get excited about for people who need something to get excited about.

I’m happy to see the typhoon increasingly be called by its name, Lan. All over the world, typhoons, hurricanes, cyclones ( same storm ) are named. As far as I know, only Japan has this dry number system, like a science laboratory. No surprise.

Yes, I remember Typhoon Jebi in 2018, I believe ( referred to as 20 in Japan that year). That was very rough in Kansai. Hope that doesn’t happen again.

The rabid fanaticism of fight for Japan without complaint until you drop - as in the extreme case, suffering people in WW2 - continues in some form yet today in sports and in work - especially in the pressure on youth.

Robbie Robertson’s name very underrated. I mean very. Even in his home country, Canada, underrated. Worked and created with the Band and Bob Dylan so well. In on all projects. Clever and artistically poignant songwriter at the same time.

“What are his motives?”

Being crazy and angry. Okay?

People feel so much better if there’s a motive. Because if the world is crazy, then they feel crazy. Sorry to disappoint you.

Guy probably reading the news about other angry stabbings and decided that fits his situation. And that’s all.

Musical traditions are destroyed by rap and hiphop -except for diehard collectors - because they get no airplay anymore. You get hiphop as the backing music in family restaurants and shopping malls now. It’s everywhere. No variety.

This typhoon is being replaced soon by a stronger typhoon. Typhoon Lan. This one is going right towards central Japan. Watch for the media to get on this very, very soon.

I wonder if it’s worse than Venezuela? People don’t talk of “going in there”. Why is there the need for other countries to go in to stop it. That’s saying they can’t take care of themselves.

Young generations will never know James Brown, Billie Holiday, John Lee Hooker and more. Great blues and funk music legacy destroyed because of rap and hiphop dominating the spotlight. And people are afraid to say so and criticize because of what they will be called if they do.

By intent usually means they have a target? Are they hunting for a victim, or are they carrying a knife just in case somebody frustrates them that day? It’s weird.

Why so many people carrying knives? Are more people actually carrying knives with them routinely? Wtf.

I don’t see how coronavirus is “largely responsible”.

If the Japan population is about 125,000,000, and the life expectancy dropped by nearly half of one percent, then 47,000 Covid deaths is not nearly enough. It would have to have been Covid deaths in the several millions.

Correct me if my calculating is wrong.

I’m wondering if the prospect of raising interest rates will soon be seen as too risky. And when financial markets sense that, the yen will get even weaker. Maybe quite a lot weaker. Just wondering. BOJ might intervene in that case but that may not work eventually. I’m imagining a situation where the yen could utterly collapse. Just a thought.

Regarding above: Death Valley, California reaching 55C ( 131F). It could happen, but a normal summer day there is 47C (117F), so temperatures approaching the 55 do occur in some summers - say, 52 or 53. A summer with no 50C ( 122F) there would be rather unusual. By the way, the official record for Death Valley of 57C(134F) occurred long ago in 1913, although its accuracy is somewhat contested.

I always think that the “take your trash home with you” comes from a time long ago when cities were smaller, and there were no fast food outlets or convenience stores. It’s very easy to see that Japanese would continue to recite this throughout the generations, as reciting old sayings is what they like to do.

Re: JMA I have no beef with them. I study the JMA every day as it is my hobby.

The lives of elderly who may act rashly in severe weather is not a case of being expendable but inevitable in cases year after year. And as a living group, they are not asking for your interference nor pity for them as a group. So leave them alone as they leave you alone.

JMA cannot say it’s the heaviest rain on record when a heavier rain occurred in Asakura in 2017 - and even that may not be the heaviest. Re: hottest day on record for the globe: That means absolutely nothing for any one locality’s experience. New Zealand North Island cyclone: Was not comparable to the power of cyclones experienced in the tropics. For example, no Category 3 was experienced in Auckland. Not even close. London heat: London did not exceed its own heat record. Re: deaths of victims.

Unfortunately, deaths in natural disasters very often occur among the elderly who insist on acting according to a preferred life style. But that is THEIR decision. THEY are not asking for your pity so leave them alone.
