Pretty sure the evidence for using vaccines was very strong. You'd have to be well into fake conspiracy theories and made-up research to believe otherwise. What's safer - a well-researched an tested vaccine designed to protect people's lives, or a deadly virus that has so far killed 6 million people worldwide and still rising that is difficult to control and may mutate into something more deadly without warning?

2021 called. They want their embarrassingly outdated "information" back.

And those "conspiracy theory" claims, well, haven't they just aged like milk.

I remember the non-New Zealanders getting hysterical about Ardern.

Ardern's Covid response involved shutting out her own country’s citizens, locking down those inside her borders, and crippling those who declined to get vaccinated.

Where was Ardern's famous empathy when she was dealing with those vaccine "dissenters" who foresaw what is now recognized as scientific fact?

Ardern leant heavily on the (wrong) assumption that the vaccines, once they arrived, would severely curtail community transmission. People were told to comply or, in the words of her successor Hipkins, they would be hunted down.

I know quite a few rational-thinking Kiwis who were more than disgusted with their ulta-progressive Establishment Left government over their handling of this.

According to what respected institution of medicine or science?

If your claim were true it would be easy to find out international public health authorities, universities, epidemiological institutes, etc. etc. around the world echoing this claim, right?

Let's start with your boyfriend, head of the JCHCO, Shigeru Omi. Just weeks ago, he was advocating for vaccination of the elderly and those with severe comorbidities. The New Zealand government, on the other hand, effectively enforced a blanket, one-size-fits all vaccination mandate for the entire population, regardless of age and health status.

That will be their legacy, and your stubborn refusal to acknowledge any scientific evidence from the last 18 months will be yours.

New Zealanders seem largely unaware of just how damaging their government's draconian, hostage-style measures were to the once-positive international reputation of their country.

The reality is, the New Zealand government, and others, who were aggressively pro-Covid vaccination and extreme regulations - without any scientific evidence of efficacy and, more importantly, safety - are on the wrong side of history.

That will be their legacy, whether they like it or not.

The right-wing regimes that have ruled in post-war Japan have ensured through the carefully controlled education of the young generations that they don't grow up critical of the wars of aggression waged by their forebears and the millions of victims who died as a result. Pretty much the same policy of every government in the world

Yes, because no Far Left government has ever waged a war of aggression. Those 100 million + killed to advance the causes of Stalinism in Russia, Maoism in China, Marxism/Leninism in South East Asia and Central & South America... just figments of the imagination of the "right-wing fascist, racist, transphobic misogynists", right comrade?

After the attack on Pearl Harbour the Japanese rounded up hundreds of Western people in Shanghai. Bankers, businessmen. Some were interned at the infamous Bridge House in Shanghai. Japanese living in the US during the war were treated very well in comparison, an compensated years later.

Historical facts, despite the Establishment Left peddling the world view that only Western, majority-white nations have been responsible for historical wrongdoings.

"Barbie” has given fright wing pols and their media another way to distract from their inability to do anything that might benefit those outside their bubble.

It has little to do with politics and more to do with male feminists, who often assume their worldview is much more common and universal than it actually turns out to be.

If you are a good cop, and there are many, you judge each individual by their individual actions. Duh.

Are you saying, in the US - where 54% of all violent crimes are committed by a certain 12.1% of the population - that police have the time and whimsical naïveté to assume that just because the overwhelmingly vast majority of interactions with said people were hostile, that the next interaction will be positive?

Where is this Rainbow'N'Cupcake Land you speak of?

Giving the government the authority to dictate when and indeed if you are able to access your finances, simply because you are of a particular age, is an issue of serious concern.

Let's for a moment remove the subject from the story and think about the meaning behind it: the Trudeau government of the once-great nation of Canada was the last to freeze the bank accounts of its citizens. It was such a despicable infringement of civil liberty that one of Canada's five Big Banks eventually apologized for their role in the crackdown, which severely harmed the country's international reputation.

We should never wish Japan to follow this path of allowing "Big Brother" to arbitrarily and illogically judge that people are unable to think for themselves and access their own, hard-earned finances.

Stop this inch before it becomes a mile.

Posted in: Martial arts superstar Bruce Lee's legacy endures 50 years after his death See in context

Are you quite sure he didn't have any 擒拿 or something in his repertoire? I'm genuinely curious, so if you could be more detailed in your explanations, I'd be happy to learn something new.

Bruce demonstrated several throws from the "highly effective" martial art aikido (LOL) in Enter the Dragon, opposite Sammo Hung, To his credit he appeared to be able perform a rudimentary arm bar submission on his on-screen opponent. Having something in his repertoire, however, means very little if you don't routinely drill that particular skill set. Again, there is no footage or documentation of Bruce ever practising any form of offensive or defensive wrestling or grappling, so without even the basic ability to sprawl, there would be practically zero chance he'd be able to stop being taken down by even a novice wrestler bull-rushing his legs. Fortunately or unfortunately, the early style-vs-style UFC matches proved just how ineffectual literal lifetimes of stand-up fighting training are once taken to the ground.

Thank you for the opportunity to share. As a Bruce Lee fan, I too shared the belief he was the greatest fighter in the history of the universe. At some point, however, we need to embrace reality.

Posted in: Martial arts superstar Bruce Lee's legacy endures 50 years after his death See in context

So about two inches taller and 6kg heavier than Naoya Inoue? Would you fancy your chances against either of them?

Yes. If you understand anything about how realistic combat actually works, it's that wrestling/grappling completely nullifies striking 99 times out of 100. It's why we don't see boxers compete in MMA and we never will.

And no, to suggest a 54kg man without any grappling ability could realistically beat a much larger, stronger man with substantial grappling ability, is wishful thinking at best.

Any sources for this or did you perhaps know him personally?

It brings me no joy to burst your Bruce Bubble, but there has never been any credible, verifiable records of Lee being involved in any tournaments, competitions or documented fights. A lone "one-inch punch" demonstration at the Long Beach International, but that was it. The rest is pure heresy, speculation and fantasy.

Overrated...

The most accurate thing you've ever written. Although an intelligent man and a charismatic actor, Bruce Lee was 5'7 and 60kg, completely untested as a fighter - never really fought anyone - and likely wouldn't last 2 minutes with the average high school wrestler. He'd be taken down and pummeled, and there'd be absolutely nothing he could do about it.

Yeah, it's in a book.

What he did was he faked his own death so that he could work undercover for the Hong Kong police, infiltrating drugs gangs and the Triads.

Because if you were gonna send someone undercover to investigate the Triads, you'd probably want the world's most famous Chinese film star.

I'm old enough to remember when society severely punished child predators. Now you have "reputable" organizations like CNN, Washington Post and Rolling Stone magazine attempting to discredit the film as "alt-right nut-crackery", dismissing it as "Q-Anon conspiracy theories" and trying to convince people that there isn't a problem with child trafficking and sexual abuse of minors.

Doing so not only means they're protecting vile predators, it means they are vile predators.

On a side note, thank you to the people behind the film whose past actions have helped saved more than 7,000 children and coordinated sting operations that have led to over 5,500 arrests. Pretty impressive statistics when, according to the Establishment Left, child trafficking "doesn't exist."

A large reason for this is that many Japanese people seem to be chronically dehydrated.
