He should have offered a sincere apology for the actions of Imperial Japan.

Japan has apologized multiple times. It is just South Korea and China that perpetuate the myth that they never have.

No, because most people don't leave rubbish on the ground for others to pick up.

Why do Japanese leave their rubbish on the ground in the first place - take your own rubbish with you!

That's right, people in every other country leave trash with the intention of coming back to pick it up later.

Cleaning up your own garbage is commendable but it's overkill to clean up others' garbage when people get paid to do it.

No it's not. That's one of the dumbest excuses I have ever heard.

Posted in: Smithsonian museum plans to show photos of A-bomb aftermath in Japan See in context

Anyone who justified the actions of the Japanese Imperial Army and their atrocities against civilians, (including the actions of Unit 731) old men, women and children, against 2 A-bombs to end this is short on intellectual capability.

Nobody's doing that. Your attempt at whataboutism is sad.

They are currently (2023 1H) the largest-selling car brand in the world.

What makes them "not relevant" in your...ummm...mind?

I believe he's making a reference to the anti-Japan commenters that frequently claim that Japan is irrelevant.

Nobody said they don't want foreigners (except Uuyoku), but plenty of people have said they don't want many foreigners. And this has not really changed.

Read his comment more closely. He's talking about people accusing Japanese people of not wanting foreigners, of which there is an abundance on this site.

Why steal them? I wouldn't eat them even if given to me for free, seeing they are from Fukushima.

If they're good enough for a Korean Olympic athlete, they're good enough for anyone.

Posted in: Awa Odori dance festival to sell premium seats for ¥200,000 See in context

200,000 yen to be bored stiff after the first five minutes and to have your eardrums blasted to smithereens for hours on end? No thanks.

You have obviously never been to one of these festivals. Either that, or you have ears of a three-year-old.

went to one many years ago, hot sweaty too many people all crammed together, funny thing is there seems to be more people in the festival than actually spectating, vast majority of participants are amature with a small fraction of professional dancers, not something id pay to watch

That wasn't my experience with Domatsuri, which had over a hundred spectators with guest dancers from Taiwan and Saipan.

Heavy rain does not *****pound.*

Heavy rain *****batters.*

Heavy rain does what it wants despite which adjective one wants to use in a fascist manner.

"Pound" and "batter" are verbs.

Posted in: Sushi chain reports diner who licked utensils in viral clip to police See in context

Seriously, the whole thing could have been avoided if, like many of their rival sushi trains, they installed an "express lane" conveyor belt for pre-ordered dishes which doesn't allow anyone but the diner to get their grubby hands on it.

Some of their branches have installed them. The one I usually go to installed them several months ago.

Posted in: Japan, U.S. urging more students to study in each other's countries See in context

It's a tricky situation for Japanese students while university administration encourage students to study abroad, each department will treat these students differently since many of department won't recognize semester when they study abroad so they end up more years in university.

Beside that it will ruin their job hunting schedule, and give no better chance to get into Japanese company of their choice. Since study abroad doesn't count in most of cases.

https://www.nippon.com/en/japan-data/h00446/year-round-hiring-aims-to-spur-more-japanese-students-to-learn-overseas.html

Experience studying abroad is valued by Japanese companies in the job hunting process, and there are universities that convert credits earned abroad as core or elective credits.

So many people complaining about the government trying to maintain safety.

First the Government wants people to drink, to have babies, now you can't drink, the nanny state continues...

Most U.S, states prohibit drinking outside, period. Japan is relatively lenient in this respect.

There is a difference between paying respects to the dead and spreading hate and attacking people because of what happened eighty years ago.

The last couple of years, it has become a very common sight to see oyajis with young "models" on photo shoots. Italy Park in Shiodome is one of the fav spots for these sick old men.

Agreed- always creepy when I see these otaku " photographers" with their "models." Kimoi oyajis.

Such a gross generalization. I personally have an acquaintance who often takes photos for families and young women who post them on Instagram. I've always been impressed with his lighting, you can't emulate it with just an iPhone.
