JeffLee..

It was, before the mass-murdering actions of several Middle Eastern gentlemen on Sept. 11,

15 from Saudi Arabia, 2 from Egypt, 2 from the UAE and one Lebanese. Funding came , unknowingly, from the Saudis and UAE. No Iraqis, Afghanis or Syrians were involved....

It has nothing to do with the money. He is going for the "challenge" and possibly the "nightlife".

What was Japan doing in Asia (empire building) that France, the UK and the Dutch were not doing?

Japan lost so has to get on its knees every August 15th?

9 minus votes for my cosplay comment?

You guys need to take another look. The tip photo has the tough guy cosplayers. Shades, frowns and a swagger in the walk. The soldiers must have spent hours getting ready, look at the detail, webbing, badges and marching in unison. If Japan could fight wars half as well as they can cosplay, we would not be reading this article!

Bill Lewis...

Airlines and the TSA have made air travel so cumbersome that I won't have any more of it.

And who do we have to thank for that?

Look, there is a story just today on JT from a Malaysian Airline flight.....

earsay.....

I'll let the readers guess the religion.

I had already guessed after reading this....

One of the passengers, Velutha Parambath, said the man had been drawing attention to himself before takeoff by praying aloud.

Mental health problems and religion are a terrible mix.

Kurisupisu....

It seems as if the spirit of Japanese nationalism is still alive and well in the grounds of Yasukuni shrine by the look of things

Also the spirit of Japanese cosplay from those photos. Excellent performances all round.

The Ukrainian air force said it intercepted all the airborne weapons fired during the nighttime attacks.

Then it must be true....lol

The Russian attacks appear aimed at facilities that transport grain and also at wrecking cherished Ukrainian historical sites.

Those "Ukrainian historical sites" in Odesa are actually Russian. Russian style, Russian built. Odesa is as anyone who have ever visited knows, a very Russian town.

Posted in: Taliban entrenched in Afghanistan after 2 years of rule; women and girls pay the price See in context

Who do you think armed and trained the 1/4 million Afghan army?

Hilarious that some people still believe this. There may have been nearly that number of salaries paid but the number in uniform was much lower. Corruption is a national industry. Those in uniform were not interested in anything other than taking the money. Afghanistan is not a nation state as most of us understand it. Tribe, religion and ethnic group are far more important to most.

Posted in: Taliban entrenched in Afghanistan after 2 years of rule; women and girls pay the price See in context

The Taliban just follow traditional Pashtun culture. Nothing has changed. We only hear the opposition from the elite in Kabul, of which there is quite rightly a lot. The Taliban have support, especially in the south. Not that the western media will ever mention this.

Posted in: Russian warship fires warning shots on cargo ship in Black Sea See in context

Russia in July halted participation in the Black Sea grain deal.

No, the deal ended and Russia did not renew because Ukraine used a "civilian" ship to launch its sea drones.

Ukraine and the West say Russia's steps amount to a de-facto blockade of Ukrainian ports that threatens to cut off the flow of wheat and sunflower seeds from Ukraine to world markets.

Doesn't cut off but makes it a little more difficult. Not unlike the failed sanctions on Russian oil and gas.

Yubaru.....

Not many businesses want to hire former wrestlers, as they have little to no skills necessary to succeed in business, as they have been in a sumo stable since graduating HS. No education, other than sumo, and no skills other than sumo.

There is one "employer" who sweeps up the not so successful sumo cast offs.... A "job" where tradition, hierarchy and respect are paramount. Another of sumo's dark secrets.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an opposition-linked war monitor.

The SOHR is actually Mr. Osman Suleiman, an anti Assad exile living in Coventry, England. He re-posts anti Assad articles that are then taken up by the mainstream media as if the were the word of God.

all six fatalities were Afghan men believed to be in their 30s.

Yes the usual age and sex for these economic migrants. Escaping the "horrors" of their home country but leaving their sisters and mothers behind.

More than 100,000 migrants have crossed the Channel on small boats from France to southeast England since Britain began publicly recording the arrivals in 2018, official figures revealed on Friday.

That is the number they know about, those undetected is unknown.

"My thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the tragic loss of life in the Channel today,"

Yes more thoughts and prayers, that's what we need.

You've moved to another country, been granted citizenship and a dual passport,

Iran, like Japan does not recognize "dual nationality".... In Iran, all of these arrested are Iranian. Their laws just like we have ours.

part of a possible deal over billions of dollars of Iranian assets frozen in South Korea.

Trumped up reasons for holding Iranian assets by the US and its vassals could possibly lead to trumped up spying charges but lets not forget that spies come in many shapes and forms and none of them list "spy" as their occupation in their passport.
