All good points well made.
Perhaps changing lifestyle culture during summer, ala South East Asia, the Middle East, Southern Europe and Africa, might be a wise move.
Work at cooler times, rest during peak heat.

Most of the land and older houses here on Amami is overpriced and/or offlimits, due to locals' greed ,and incomers' speculation.
Therefore, cheapass 'mansion' apartments are proliferating, due to subsidies on renting for teachers and government staff.
It's a disgrace.

Most museums here are fusty,dusty,hands-off antiquated displays of dilapidated mannequins and badly labelled rocks.
Funnel some of the town hall moolah into making these places into interactive,child-friendly spaces, and then we're talking.
