quote of the day

Young Japanese should first become aware of environmental issues and then they should find out what they can do on their own and swing into action.

It makes a lot of sense, good advice. Some people can understand the dire situation we are at, but stop at that point and end up with anxiety thinking that nothing they can do could possibly have an effect. Information can lead to understanding and actions that are effective in a personal scale. Nobody is expected to solve the problem by themselves, but if they end up being a tiny part of the solution and not of the problem that can be good enough, after all this can help inspiring others to do the same and the effort of the whole community can actually have an significative effect.

Not to mention improve a huge lot the mental health of the people, this is a much better solution than the easy way out that others choose of just being in denial and pretend there is no problem, the scientists of the world are wrong and they can live as they want without any responsibility.

Meanwhile, all the world's leaders fly to exotic locations in their exhaust emitting, fuel-burning private jets or tax-payer funded jets......to talk about climate change...and forcing carbon tax on citizens.

See, a scientist would say: are planes the biggest source of carbon dioxide emissions? (they're not). Is there value in having the leaders not spend a month as sea? (there is) Finally, is the value of doing a showy trip by sea going to convince the climate neanderthals to agree to something? (it won't)

The level of sophistication and understanding of the complex, nuanced and layered challenges we face with our energy mix here is about equivalent to an 11-year-old elementary student. According to your average Japanese university student, all we have to (and can do personally ) for the environment is to turn off the occasional light to an empty room. Work to be done there is. Conversations need to be had! The bar is way too low.

eco-anxiety!

Parks trying hard. Sayin not much…

Telling kids "hey! clean up THE mess yerself= no more worries. Sleep tight"

Wanna really help the kids call it what it is.

Start with "This is big boy pants problem"

Cans gettin kicked down the road again and again..

Clean it yerself sounds like magic wand fantasy fairyland..

Suggest get organized, get numbers

Suggest go vote for eco fix doers

Watchout for Lips moving one way

But actions moving the other way

Be more serious.

If they really want to find out the truth for themselves, they will come to the conclusion that carbon dioxide is not a problem for humanity because it doesn't drive climate change and never has done.

According to the oil, gas and coal industry.

I just came back from the beach and the beach is absolutely covered in garbage due to the storm and all its runoff.

People often tell me most of the garbage comes floating over from China but that's just a lot of bull unless they all started using hiragana/katakana on their packaging.

People can "swing into action" by using a hell of a lot less plastic, discard garbage properly (not in the weeds next to the rivers), and push to have companies package their products w/ minimal amounts of plastic.

The tiny demographic that is the young Japanese are too busy trying to find time to catch up on what little sleep they can get in between school, club activities, whatever nonsense they have to go to school for on weekends, cram school etc. etc. I really don't think the dire state that is the current environment is on their minds. That and the fact that they don't seem to have much grasp on current environmental issues.
