@Stephen Chin.

It's rather sad - and perhaps illuminating - that some are downvoting your heart-rending story. Maybe there are those among us who do not have the "resolve to never repeat the tragedy of the war" on this day of peace.

I am sorry to hear your story, Stephen Chin. Thank you for telling it. It would be a story repeated all over South East Asia, sadly. There were mass murders and killings of innocents in many places. Perhaps Japan would be happy to hear these stories in the schools and in town halls and in the media in order to "never repeat the tragedy of the war."

It may not necessarily be to keep apologising or expressing remorse but inherent in its duty leading on from WWII is to make sure fascism and militarism never happen again if Japan truly learned its lesson. Sadly such resolve seems missing when their mention are absent. They were the roots of ordinary Japanese suffering as well as others in Asia and that could be the tack taken every year but this is too close to mentioning a flaw in the cultural hierarchical DNA and that is anathema to many. Japanese can never be allowed to consider themselves victims of Japanese policy, no matter how historical, no matter how repellent. The leaders must remain infallible.

And we all know who is behind the J-right wing.

Do we? You'd better enlighten us. And perhaps remind us what qualification you have to speak on behalf of them?

So, if the point was to avoid having a place where people could gather, and if this grave is completely empty, why have the grave?

@isabelle. In Nara prefecture there is a "grave" to the emperor Jimmu, supposedly the original emperor, and it attracts nationalists every year but there is really nothing inside.

Those identified with the disorder of 'nationalism' would be better to be immediately hospitalised as a danger to themselves and others. They have caused far too much trouble historically and produced little of worth, only misery. Japanese have suffered more than many due to this disease. I really hope they have learned the lesson.

The classy attitude of TOJO and Tomoyuki yamashita and others during the trials shows that there was a big class gab between Japan and USA.

That old "ultra national spirit" is not dead after all. Perhaps it will cause the Japanese people the same problems and suffering all over again.

It's not as if Japan has no record of pointless tests on imports to prevent them. The incentive may be different but using "safety" as an excuse has long been in Japan's industrial policy armoury.

There seem to be no doubts any more. All the news now is how we adapt to it, not prevent it. Those who have denied it for so long and inhibited prevention bear huge responsibility and should be the ones who pay for this adaptation and incapacity. Beginning with Big Carbon.

Will he be another Ian Rush or Michael Owen? Several high-profile British players don't travel well and he is 30 now and well past the flexibility of, say, Jude Bellingham. I wonder if he will ever learn German. It's remarkable how cosmopolitan foreign footballers in the Premier League seem compared to their parochial British counterparts.

We have to consider the implication that our normal consciousness is not really all it is believed to be and may be false and dysfunctional too. This is not a particularly new idea but it is one we fail to consider as we blunder on witlessly consuming everything in our path. And we call it good.

My better half makes the best sushi. Too much of everything else is spoiled by too much sugar in the rice. And balsamic vinegar is much better than rice vinegar, but this will be sacrilege to the traditionalists.

once you try it, high chance you become addicted and ruin your life without turning back.

Frankly, that is BS. And you have failed to specify which 'drug' you are talking about anyway. In Singapore, even weed is illegal and nobody suggests you instantly become addicted to it. Meanwhile, addiction to tech gadgets like smartphones, deliberately addictive social media and even shopping seem to be fine because they feed the consumerism beast.
