The yearly tick of Asia ritual. Perhaps western counties should return to the holiday “victory over Japan” which it was called for many years.

I’ve seen less cigarette smoking but electronic is everyone it seems. I’ve also seen more smokers not following the law about walking and smoking.

Cash strapped? Didn’t the government just increase the taxes on energy and give themselves a raise? The energy companies are now at record profits and tax dollars are continuing to go to them as well.

If the police do crowd control like they do at the hanabi fireworks then someone is going to die on the mountain. It’s a horrible idea putting these people in charge of any control. Just start charging when people get into trouble and need evacuation because of their idiotic behavior. 99.999% of the people are fine. Let people be.

Doesn’t surprise me. I’ve been back since December and o find drivers aggressive and not following the rules as strictly as they did in the past. With an aging and growing self entitled culture it’s just going to keep getting worse.

Posted in: Era of mass closures: The Japanese businesses without successors See in context

No successors often because employees leave due to low wages. The small business owner keeps most is the profits and squeezes staff until nothing is left. Passing on the company to a well paid employee to continue clearly isn’t in anyone’s mind set. In addition foreigners are unable to step in as most of these small companies don’t have the ability to sponsor visa. It’s a huge problem for an aging county with a closed mind to keep things going in a new age.

Posted in: Japan to see price hikes on 35,000 food, drink items by end of 2023 See in context

The vending machines are getting ridiculous. The one near my place was 100 yen in December. It now is 160 yen. I’m 100% sure the price of drinks did not go up 60% and this is 100% price gouging the Japanese consumers.

Korea would be gone. SK NK and some of Japan. So the story is pointless. Of course his leadership would be gone. Just like SK leadership. People need to start to talk with respect to all parties involved.

Posted in: 2,000 peaches stolen from Fukushima orchard See in context

325 yen for farmer price for peaches? The math isn’t right. By the time you get JA involved and super market pricing there is no margin. It also seems strange no one saw or witnessed it seeing there were so many taken. Picking 30 trees must take hours and hours. And seeing the time frame was night they would have had lights which neighbors should have seen. Sad for the farmer but the story doesn’t sound right.

during covid they got government help. Now airlines are taking advantage of the tax payers who bailed them out again. Having huge profits like this shows the total irresponsible behavior of the airline industry.

Posted in: 27% of Japan's nursing homes face bankruptcy due to price hikes: survey See in context

Energy and basic need prices are controlled by the gov’s via regulations and people should stop voting for these guys. But their self inflicted pain the Japanese love to inflict upon themselves they will continue to pay. With electric, petroleum, telecommunications all showing record profits while the average subservient worker has less and less. Japan is just hurting itself. When these old folks places close, when they don’t have adequate staff that are trained properly, it will be too late sadly for the average person.

How can japans Immagration allow these foreigners to work in such environments. While they can reopen with a new manager let’s focus on staff and start to investigate them openly. Police showing up at their homes etc to inquire about their job and duties and if found to be in any violations deport them back to their countries. Japan is a free country but it shouldn’t be weakened by these thugs and staff who take advantage of the system. How about police start walking around more looking out for customers like the man described and asking if he needs help and what’s going on. How about staff in convenient stores contacting the police when there seems to be trouble. We all need to get involved to stomp out this mess. Being gone for 2 years I’m shocked at how many place act now and sadly they are often Chinese.

I was on the Yamamote at the time and the message said they were running a security test. They didn’t announce anything about it. Seems like an aggressive standing commuter needed a bit of attention and pushed the button for no reason. How would anyone be able to buy a kitchen knife at a store in town and take it home with the aggressive actions of the person who pushed the security button. It wasted everyone’s time and got people hurt for no reason. They should be proud today if their actions. I hope the police take action about them pushing the button without an actual threat.

Went to get a new number and their price seems a bit better and was told I needed to pay 15,000 yen for a bill they said I had 15 years ago. Lol. Walked out. If their business model is like this I can see why they have massive losses. First they didn’t even provide me with the breakdown as to why I owed it or prove it nor did they have a email address I could email to get it corrected. They wanted me to call their customer support and waste my time on hold. Softbank has always been crap.
