Meanwhile they refuse to give millions of foreign workers residency visas and will not offer citizenship by naturalization so any benefits they actually could get out of immigration, which there are many, look at the USA...we won't get here in lonely old out of date Japan.

We need a WWII mobilization, NOW against climate change. Move to nuclear, and renewables within 5 years, all coal burning must stop. Reforestation must be undertaken by the military and the Amazon rainforrest should be forcefully protected by NATO troops.

Afterward, I would always think, ‘What were they thinking? Why did they jump in?”

Its the allure of the water, swimming is an incredibly fun and beautiful thing to do. Especially when it's hot.

People just don't understand that not being able to swim, really means, you cannot swim, they probably just think they will work it out as they go, until they panic and it's too late.

Those girls proabably just kept wading in until they couldn't feel the bottom and then...boom, it's too late. Probably didn't even mean to go to a place they couldn't stand up.

Living in a group of islands, all people should need to learn to swim, or understand the dangers.

A true statesmen would use this announcement to enact positive change, Kishida should use this as initiative to make sure every child learns to swim and respect the water...but no.

In a country with so much water there is no excuse for the lack of high quality swimming classes. Kids here get the worst swimming lessons I’ve seen out of any developed nation. By the time they’re 7 they learn to blow bubbles and that’s pretty much it. It’s so bad that when I take my kids back home, I get them real swimming lessons otherwise they can’t learn.

Go to Australia and see how it’s done.

This is an unbelievably sad tragedy and totally unavoidable, I can’t imagine how the parents are feeling after this. Condolences to them and RIP to these poor children.

China, as the world's biggest polluter, is the last country on earth to be lecturing anyone about pollution.

We've all been told too many times things are safe and they turn out not to be safe. So I understand why people no longer want to eat Japanese seafood.

Trust was broken when the Tepco operatores didn't put the generators on the roof, that's it. Now we're all supposed to believe the water is safe. Well at one point, the plant was safe, until it blew up.

The Chinese must love it when the stream of fools (a.k.a. US leaders) come and bow and beg them.

What? Shouldn't the speed limit have been based on what is safe? Just spitting in the wind thinking that raising the speed limit makes deliveries faster, too.\

This is why Japan is a leader in nothing in 2023...incalid CSRF

Posted in: Japan to push child care, labor reforms to stem falling birthrate See in context

The world doesn’t feel safe, and there’s little guarantee of financial security. This is why people don’t want children .

AI is “weird” and scary, climate change is dangerous and scary, wages have stagnated forever, war is in progress and could escalate. People are just too smart to have kids in this climate.

If the government addressed some of these key issues and assured people they were going to follow through, people would feel ready for kids.
