Why does this kind of thing become public news? Why not just do it in secret and hold it until its needed. Making news out of it just gives the other side info to develop something else

Posted in: Japan to start Fukushima water release from around late August See in context

Don't tell anyone the date, just open the taps and get on with it. I will still happily eat fish from the area. Again I will say..I have been watching the negative comments for months about this but as yet have not seen one of the haters give an alternate idea! You must understand they can not keep on storing water forever. The whole country would end up being covered in tanks! And I can imagine what you haters would start bleating at if there was another major earthquake and a couple of hundred tanks split and let the water cover the land instead. So either give an alternative idea or shut up!

Posted in: Car transport ship's Japanese owner to investigate Dutch fire See in context

I am in the auto export business and I have a theory on this. I am not blaming anyone but I do wonder because these cars do not have an engine noise the port staff who load these ships are always doing so with as much speed as possible to avoid long delays for the ships if when they drive onboard they are putting the park brake on and forgetting to power down the actual car. This would leave an ongoing load on the batteries not the same but similar to when you have a gasoline car and you sit at the traffic lights with the car in drive and foot on the brake. Again not trying to put blame as it would be a very easy thing to do when your in a hurry. Or I may also be completely wrong.

When you go and watch any form or motorsport your in the same situation. These people knew they were going to an ACTIVE volcano. Its part of the risks involved thing could go wrong.

Also, the helicopter operators mentioned are being charged with safety breaches for not waiting for permission to go out and pick up severely injured people and fly them to hospital. The saved multiple lives by doing so putting their own lives at risk and should be left alone.

This is why you read stories in the media of children murdering their elderly parents. The aged care facilities in Japan are rubbish so parents end up living with their children putting pressure on marriages etc.

Meanwhile old fuds like me deliberately passed up buying a new Transit Connect in favor of a used one specifically to avoid the automatic braking "feature" (kludge). I don't want a car thinking for me. But brainless "know-it-alls" like this chief technology officer keep larding cars up with crap nobody asked for and then don't even offer the option to delete this crap from their car.

If idiots would stop texting and playing games on their phones while driving auto braking would not be needed.

Posted in: Fishermen concerned over IAEA saying Fukushima water release is safe See in context

mtuffiziToday  07:04 am JST

people, environment, safety, and jobs are major factors to consider before making the move. what is the purpose to release water into sea? any voting right from citizens? not sure about others but i will avoid to eat seafood in japan afterward.

They can not just keep collecting this water and storing it! If so the entire country will end up with holding tanks. Also, I can imagine how much you would complain if there was another big earthquake in the area and all the tanks split and let the water out over land. Japan has no choice but to do something with that water. Experts have called the release into the ocean (over years by the way) to be the best resolve. Open the taps and get on with it already.

Posted in: TEPCO says equipment to release treated wastewater into sea is complete See in context

Once again a bunch of negative comments above but not 1 solution! They can NOT continue to keep storing water in tanks and keep it! I can only imagine your complaints if they have 1000 acres of full tanks and there is another major earthquake and they all burst!. So if you are going to complain about this being a bad idea to release the water also add a better solution as they simply can not keep collecting and holding the water.

No one likes the idea of this water going into the ocean but the fact is it is the best solution to a long term bigger problem.

Posted in: 5 dead after bus collides with truck in Hokkaido See in context

In another life I was a truck driver (30 yrs ago) and can say carrying livestock is very different from carrying goods. The centre point of gravity is higher for a start and also if the stock are not in pens in the truck and something spooks one of the animals and they all suddenly move can shift the position of the truck. Extreme care is needed especially when cornering. Not saying thats the case here just worth pointing out that perhaps a little overspeed on the trucks part combined with some movement in the back from the animals could very easily put him on the wrong side. Just sadly it had a tragic end.

Posted in: Japan raises age of consent from 13 to 16 See in context

Asiaman7Today  07:22 am JST

Under the new law, teen couples no more than five years apart in age will be exempt from prosecution if both partners are over 13.

So youths can still consent in the following cases:

18-year-old with anyone aged 13 or older

19-year-old with anyone aged 14 or older

20-year-old with anyone aged 15 or older

My guess is that legislators did not feel comfortable outlawing youthful sexual exploration. But a five-year age gap seems rather excessive.

Why? There is a 5 year age gap between me and my wife. Whats the difference? And many happy & successful marriages met in early to mid teen years.

Posted in: Japan to consider delaying defense spending tax increase to 2025 or beyond See in context

Lower the tax rate substantially , raise the consumption tax a smaller amount and let the tourist who come here spending money help pay for it with the consumption tax on the goods they buy. Japan needs to be very careful of the amount of tax business pay in Japan, they already have large corporations shutting up shop in Japan to move offshore where taxes are cheaper. Meaning the loss of jobs for people and loss of income for the govt. I myself are right on the edge of doing the same. Total taxes I pay is currently 62% and employ local Japanese staff. If my taxes increase I am out of here and my staff are on their own.

So how about all of the people leaving negative comments on here give a solution for the problem. Something needs to be done with the water, they can not just keep on filling up tanks and storing them.

I certainly don't have one and I am sure the experts have considered all options coming to the conclusion this is the safest. But I am sure the govt would listen to all your expert advice.
