I don’t understand the panic about loosing jobs. If you love what you did then just continue to do it for free … and learn something more useful for society to make a few bucks.

Not and I really don’t recommend this roulette at least for a few centuries.

Posted in: As Japan aligns with U.S. chip curbs on China, some in Tokyo feel uneasy See in context

China has their own indigenous chip making technologies. And they are going to hit 24nm next year or so. Then 14nm.

Not very impressive and the others are not going to wait.

China is currently the only nation that has the chip making technology for the entire process. From ion implanters to steppers to vapor deposition, etc.

Its an advantage only if you play against other isolated countries like Russia, or North Korea or Iran.

The US will be the only one that will need to go on a building spree to refine rare earth metals. And for Ge and Ga, they are trace metals from refining massive amounts of aluminum. The US will have issues refining those metals.

It will cost a lot while China gets theirs from refining aluminum for their own use.

Yes, there are deposits of rare-earths in North Dakota, Wyoming, and Alaska. As long as the U.S. has a democratic president, the Federal Government will most likely not issue the required permits to mine these rare-earths.

Again, assumptions of isolated countries. There are no restrictions to buy anything anywhere for anyone except for China and a few other countries.

Lebanon is amongst the most corrupted countries in the world. Sooo, he should easily win the case there.

So many countries want this guy. It’s hardly an indication of a clean character. The point is that possible corruption of Japanese prosecution system does not mean that anyone it prosecutes is automatically innocent.

Posted in: Lab crunch: British science has nowhere to go See in context

So what was the reason that they can’t relocate to another place/country? Do they need to go to the library in Oxford every day? Wouldn’t it be more appropriate to work in a more isolated location?

Posted in: Ghosn files $1 billion lawsuit in Lebanon against Nissan over his imprisonment in Japan See in context

I am just wondering what is the meaning to win a case in a Lebanese court? It might be slightly beneficial for Ghosn since he lives there, but otherwise it seems kind of useless.

One question remains. Did Sam Altman actually the author of his own words or he also skipped his homework and generated the entire speech.

It’s OK, but then each city should introduce reciprocal measures for Kyoto residents visiting other places :)

Sony Bank has an English app and service and is free and everything is done online.

Sony Bank is free, but, as far as I know, they have only some services in English. Even the banking app is not in English.

Making wine is not about mixing things up and filling up the bottle. I am not sure producers even know what exactly their wine is made of.

Sounds about right given the shrinking and aging population. By 2115 most of Japan will be abandoned land, so no need for roads or highways.

Ideally, Chinese government should pay compensation to all the loss caused by the current pandemic. So that next time they will be open for investigation and cooperation.

Posted in: How WHO could fight future pandemics See in context

Pretending health authorities to recommend things based on inexistent evidence makes no sense, the evidence must come first, else why not recommend anything and everything?

And this approach proved itself wrong. The correct one was obviously to recommend max measures and restrictions until there is evidence of its inefficiency. Did WHO took any responsibility or corrected its future response drill? Anyone resigned?

The story about Everest is pure greed mixed with pure human ego. What other motive than ego can be to climb it through dying or frozen bodies of less lucky companions? And what other motive than greed to keep this mountain open for climbers if 1% of them never comes back.

Posted in: Companies find it's not so simple to leave Russia; some quietly stay put See in context

It’s not about staying or leaving, it’s more about investing in Russia or not. Right now it’s strongly not. Even Russian professionals are not investing in Russia by escaping it in numbers. To add more, Russian market is ridiculously small and shrinking (don’t get fooled by its territory on a map), so its really not a big deal.

The best for the climate is to significantly reduce the number of people and to keep them poor, so that consumption is low. Other measures have an impact close to zero.

I thought they should be happy. People could always quit their job at any age, but sometimes they can’t work longer because of reaching the retirement age. So, increasing the retirement age means more flexibility, isn’t it?

Twitter is not the only social media platform and I'm sure anyone can get the same garbage from others like FB....all for free. What is so special about Twitter and their data?

The above article is dedicated to explain how Twitter is useful to make our life better. They even have examples. As for FB etc., I am not sure, but perhaps Twitter is more suited to share time critical condensed information, rather than long pointless stories.
