Posted in: Australian police charge man over bomb threat on Malaysia Airlines flight See in context

Recently, during a short flight from Europe to Turkey (I was coming back to Japan), one guy (in the business class by the way) quite loudly prayed the entire flight. He was obviously agitated, kept on asking flight attendants for something, then back to prayer. Nothing happened, probably he was just afraid of flying, but it was very awkward and uncomfortable for other passengers, and I felt quite scared myself.

Of course I don’t agree, scientists with their PhDs and mumbo jumbo equations I don’t understand (cause I dropped out of high school), somebguys on tik tok clearly proved it’s all a big government conspiracy.

Later edit: forget my comment about the receipt, looking more carefully at the photo, it has nothing to do with the story, it is a receipt for ice coffee from May 2018, from a Lawson store in Shinjuku Sanchome

Posted in: Have you ever been stopped by Japanese police, and if so, what for? See in context

If you drive, and I did almost daily for 20 years+, it is inevitable. But it has nothing to do with being a foreigner: a few times they were stopping everybody (alcohol tests, seat belt check, safety campaigns, etc.), and a speeding ticket (and once they let me go). I was only once stopped for a bicycle check at night, but again, they were checking everybody.

As a beer lover, I must correct this article: judging from the price, that was not beer, but the foul-tasting, horrible beer-like thing concoction (happoshu)

Posted in: Djokovic, Alcarez reach Wimbledon quarters as Rybakina advances See in context

@ Kaowaiinekochanknaw: lol

Watched just the last two sets of Tstsipas-Eubanks, that was an entertaining match. Both played very aggressively, Eubanks blasted at full power, had a great day, a bit of luck (3 net chords in the decider, and a huge miss by Tsisipas on breakpoint, an easy volley sitter), and he got the win. And he is such a nice guy, he kept on smiling despite the pressure

Posted in: Alcaraz, Djokovic advance as Murray suffers Wimbledon heartbreak See in context

I just watched the first set, but however you stretch it, he didn’t “shine”, he played poorly (by his standards) and made many uncharacteristic mistakes. The nerves, a bad day? Anyways, winning despite playing poorly is the sign of a champion

Unfortunately, this year Wimbledon started quite bad, rain for two days in a row.

Never liked Murray's tennis style, but I have to admire his grit and passion for the sport.

Jarry was is bad form, especially his serve was weird, tossing all over the place, but man Alcaraz played some crazy tennis.

Posted in: Djokovic off to winning start at Wimbledon as Gauff, Venus crash out See in context

While it has the tradition and it looks good to the eye, in my opinion grass is by far the worst surface and should be gradually phased out from modern tennis competitions. Not only for the irregular bounces, weird ball skids, and high sensitivity to humidity, but because it is so slippery that many players end up injured. I'm sure an artificial material that looks and plays similarly, but it is more reliable and safe (and easier/cheaper to maintain) can be developed. I know it is an unpopular opinion, but the number of grass courts and tournaments is shrinking, echoing the sentiment throughout the community.

Posted in: Beer factory leak turns Okinawa port red See in context

Edit: now I fully understood what happened, the cooling liquid was propylene glycol containing a red dye, for the workers to know it is not simple water. This cooling liquid spilled into the water. Now, to assess potential damage, the company/article should mention how much was spilled, and what was the concentration of propylene glycol in the affected water

Posted in: Beer factory leak turns Okinawa port red See in context

It seems that the cooling system, which is using propylene glycol, leaked and flowed some red dye with it. In other words, the propylene glycol is just used for the cooling system, they don't put it in beer, so you can relax and have a few cold ones. Not Orion though, too light in my opinion

Posted in: Alcaraz wins Queen's Club final for 1st title on grass and reclaims top ranking ahead of Wimbledon See in context

Alcaraz was impressive, I was very tired yesterday, but they kept me awake. I like De Minaur and he played great, but he doesn't really have any big weapons (except speed), so it is very tough for him to fight the top guys.

In other news, the ever entertaining Bublik did it, won the Halle Masters! No underarm serves this time...

The road is a two lane national route, having a yellow center line.

I don't know how the posters above reached the conclusion that the victim was driving a kei, the Japanese news mention "automobile", nothing about kei. And in the picture provided, that does not look like a kei.

Posted in: Incident with knives causes commotion on Tokyo Yamanote line train See in context

As reported, a station employee called the police, claiming the person brandished a knife. However, other people did not see it, so it may have been a misunderstanding (I see no reason for the station employee to lie). Then the person got into the train, sit down, and put the two knives barely wrapped in a cloth on the seat near him. It may have been an innocent mistake, but that is not normal behavior and in any country somebody would call the police.

As a diver myself, getting lost drifting to the sea is very scary and they are lucky to be found alive. You pay money to a diving company precisely to avoid such accidents, and I hope a proper investigation will be conducted.. The instructors should be familiar with the area, the currents and the potential hazards, and keep communications with the boat.

I went to sleep during the second set, the match up to that point was unbelievable, crazy rallies and insane court coverage. I understand the mental pressure on Alcaraz, but getting so bad cramps after 2 hours of play, regardless how gruesome, at only 20 years old is worrysome.
