It's better than it used to be. When I first came to Japan, if you paid into the nenkin but later left the country, you would lose everything you had paid. At least now you can get it back.

But there appears to be absolutely no relationship between the cost of crude oil and the price at the pump. Although I must admit it appears that when the price goes up the pump price rises, but when it drops again the pump price remains the same or even rises further!

When they removed them from our part of Tokyo the local council said it was because people were dumping their domestic waste in them and it is true that you used to see them in the parks overflowing with household waste, particularly at New Year and Obon. Now that many areas charge for trash collection, I am sure that a lot more people would take advantage of them for this purpose and so I don't really see much chance of them coming back.

After the earthquake when there were no nuclear power stations operating there was ample supply but now that the power stations are on line again and the countryside smothered with solar panels they say that there will not be enough electricity. Something seems strange about that

I remember that when Japan first accused North Korea of abducting their citizens, the North Koreans replied, 'But what about all the people Japan abducted from North Korea before and during the war?' However Japan simply told them not to change the subject.
