This film is indicative of Hollywood's inept film making. When was the last time you saw a film that had an original story or that was inventive in any way at all? Hollywood used to be able to make a grown up's film, but now we get superheroes and dolls. Watch a foreign film (even one with subtitles) and you can see many good stories, good film work, and inventive characters and story-lines. Hollywood makes pablum and people eat it up.

The "it was warmer in the Middle Ages" people get their evidence from. . .science? That is the funny part. "It was warmer in the dinosaur age" is what science tells us. It was also warmer when the earth was first formed. Science again.

But today science is "wrong" or "perpetuating a hoax" or "I have to wear a coat at night where I live," which is a weather report and not a climate issue.

Where do these people get their information from, then? From Fox News and other conservative "news" sources.

Global warming is here, whether man-made or not. Anyone with an IQ over 50 can figure that out, Of course the people who don't want to think for themselves will believe anything they are told.

Clark Kent takes a holiday.

He is such a strong pitcher that his missing a start just means Shohei will show up next time with his usual strong outing. I'll be watching the box scores anyway to see how he does as a hitter until then. Top notch box office attraction.

I know some Japanese Americans who were interred. One was my uncle. His parents had a truck farm and a vegetable store in Oklahoma. My uncle was a boy at the time and had hundreds of marbles. He put his favorite marble in his pocket since they were allowed just one suitcase per person.

When they were disinterred, the truck farm and store were gone. They moved to the slums in Chicago and worked their way up to the upper middle class.

What is overlooked is that these US citizens lost most of what they had and were not reimbursed. I could write a book about my talks with my uncle about the camps. It was a miscarriage of justice, and a sad one. German and Italian citizens were not interred. Of course, one of the most decorated of army battalions was made up of Japanese Americans, most of whom volunteered from the camps.

When I was in Japan I was able to watch the rikishi duel in a honbasho. It is an unappreciated sport. Mostly unknown out side of Japan, I found the sport to be exciting, fun, thrilling, and oh so Japanese. Anyone visiting Japan should go to at least one match. These guys really are athletes. You have to see it to understand it. I'm so glad to know its popularity is growing.

He also walked twice to improve his league-leading total to 74. Considering that he leads the majors in home runs and is tied for the lead in triples (power and speed), his season 3.17 ERA along with 10 wins (which includes a complete game 1 hit shutout), this kid is doing pretty good. Pretty darn good. Oh, yeah. He is 4th in the majors with strike outs (as a pitcher.)

Anyone not following how he's doing is simply someone who doesn't know baseball. I look at the box scores everyday just to see how he did. There are just not words enough to describe how well he's playing.

Nomination is right. Ohtani has a chance to make the playoffs with the Angels. And there is no certainty that he won't re-sign with the Angels, either. If kaimychal knew anything about baseball he would know that the Angels haven't lost to Atlanta yet. Otherwise, no disagreement from me.

All the talk about the future is merely speculation. The Angels might make the playoffs. It's not over yet. Ohtani might leave the Angels for another team. We don't know that yet. I know! Why don't we follow this season as it unfolds and not "know" what's going to happen? Either way, following Ohtani is the best part of baseball this season. Just enjoy it and marvel if he keeps it up.

I've only owned Toyotas for the last 35 years. That's only 3. They are tanks. Best cars on the road. And they need repairs only rarely, too. They look good, they run good, and they last and last and last.

WA4TKG -- you're right. New cars are way out of hand in price. If I have to pay a chunk of money for a new one some day, it would be a Toyota. I'm would then probably be too old to drive when I need a new one. I agree with Fighto!

Whatever amount of money he makes or where he plays, this is the man to watch. Back in the days when major leaguers had to work over the winter, and $100,000 was top pay, the owners abused the talent they had. Now they have to pay for what the player is worth. No one is worth more than Ohtani. No one.

I have had the same thought. If the same Ohtani came from his home state, Yrral would be crazy for Shohei. As it is, whether the Angels win or not, Ohatani is leading the majors in home runs and triples and is hitting better than .300; one of only 6 players in the AL. He has a winning record, a decent ERA, and is 3rd in strike outs. What's not to like? The man is astounding. You just may have put your finger on what may be exactly right. After all, a lot of people refused to acknowledge Jackie Robinson's ability to play and we all know why that was.

Don’t blame it on global warming. The recent heatwaves worldwide are caused by the jet stream temporarily having shifted southward. The earth has actually become cooler over the past eight years, shown by the fact that the Antarctic ice has grown thicker.

I know that your fellow climatologists might disagree with you and then you would have your credibility questioned, but why don't you publish a story about what is really happening? Have the courage to stand up to your colleagues and tell people via scholarly publications or even magazine or news articles. One of the reasons people fear global warming is that you climatologists who fear damage to your reputations won't speak up.

Please either re-read your comments before posting, or find a book on punctuation and grammar. Aside from that, you cannot be serious about a pitcher needing to win 20 games to be above average. History is against you. It is the same with being a dominate hitter needing 50 home runs. History, again, proves you wrong. Besides, we're talking about the only player in history who pitches and hits on a full-time basis. Mr. Ohtani is one of only 6 .300 hitters in the American League and is leading all the the majors in home runs. He is also 3rd in the AL in pitching strike outs. He has a .692 win-loss percentage. What have you got against this guy? Learn punctuation, grammar, and while you're at it, learn baseball history.

Mocheake --

MLB "fans" can get games here but they only get games that feature Japanese players because the networks and people only care about what the Japanese players are doing. They are not true fans.

In Japan and in the US, Ohtani is very popular. And what is wrong with Japan reporting about a Japanese player? In Illinois, the Chicago Cubs are featured over any other team, whether they are good or bad. By your definition, they are not true fans. So how is Japan different than the US? In all the MLB venues, the hometown team is favored.

Oh, yeah. What is a true fan? In the US, to get the casual fan interested there is a time-clock, fantom base runners, and soon probably strikes and balls not being called by human umpires. So what is a true fan? A US citizen?

Your complaint about Japanese coverage seems to be spurious, at best. True fan? Definition, please. Like "pure hitter" it seems to have no relevance to anything. Please, educate us untrue fans.

Mr. Mocheake

These parts is Japan. This is Japanese news. You seem to think you and the US knows better than these parts.

Why are you commenting here at all? Japan doesn't know baseball, Japan over-rates Ohtani, Japan reports badly. . .If it is all so bad, go to MLBs page and comment there. Go to The Sporting News page and comment there. Oh, and while you're doing that, check to see how many stories are being written about Shohei Otani. There will be a LOT.

But, Ohtani's over-rated, the Angels are bad, my favorite player is better, my foot hurts, I know more about baseball, . . . go somewhere else to whine. Ohtani is simply super great. Live with it. Just because he's from these parts doesn't make him any less incredibly good.

Yeah, Mike Trout. The guy who has pitched. . .well, okay, he's not a pitcher but he has hit. . .well, not as many home runs, but his RBI total is. . .well, not as good, but. . .well, darn it, he's just good that's all. HE is making all the difference for the Angels. My mommy said so. Mr. Ohtani is getting the headlines Trout used to get because he's. . .well, right now, Trout's not doing nearly so well as Ohtani, but you wait. Next year for sure! Well, maybe.

The US cannot be held responsible for proposals that did not reach them unless you have some evidence that they did.

Read "The Rising Sun: The Decline and Fall of the Japanese Empire 1936 - 1945". Japan clearly signaled the US that surrender was imminent. The fear the US had of having to fight on the Japanese mainland was gone. Still, I guess just to have an opportunity to test the bombs, we dropped them. It is nothing to brag about that the US is still the only country to use super bombs on a foreign country.

1glenn is absolutely right. Some players have a charisma that others don't, just as players have better stats than others. I've seen a lot of baseball games and players like Reggie Jackson and Ricky Henderson could just stand there and draw attention. Ohtani is the most exciting player in any sport right now. Detractors are overlooking the obvious: compare a player by how is he doing amongst his peers. Ohtani has no peers. He's really that good.

Japan is the only country in the world to have had a super-bomb dropped on them. The US is the only country to drop them. That is nothing for the US to brag about. Few seem to know that the Japanese were ready to surrender but that they wanted to keep the emperor as their head. The US policy was unconditional surrender. General Douglas's first piece of business was to allow the emperor to be the head of Japan. Debate whether the bomb was necessary or not, but there is no argument that the use of the bomb was a wartime extreme. The hundreds of thousands of innocent lives were not collateral damage. It was a cruel incident.

Like many people, I check the box scores every day just to see how he did. Japan Times is no more biased than The New York times or any other new site on the web. Get over it.
