Posted in: Scientists say human-caused global warming is exacerbating natural disasters such as fires and floods around the world, making them both more likely and more deadly. Do you agree? See in context

Just like all wealth and riches, conveniences and luxuries are not "advancement" nor "progress", it's stolen from someone or some time in the future.

Posted in: Encouraging employees to do side jobs is beneficial for local governments in demonstrating their attitude in solving local community issues. See in context

The problem is the shift to outsourcing everything to private companies, especially when collusion is involved. When government workers (just like company employees) don't get enough practice to do the things they're supposed to do, you get ineffective organizations.

Just take for example the MyNumber card fiasco, they outsourced their system to Fujitsu, which in-turn outsourced it to various Chinese/Indian-run dispatch companies, lol.

Americans can't speak other languages than English, and so are the Japanese with Japanese language. It's a symbol of status that your country's economy is sufficient enough to provide its people, that people don't need to speak other countries' languages to make a living.

I helped locate one of the original owner of these flags once. During the meeting, it was amazing that there were virtually no feelings of vengeance or hatred between US and Japan, even the people directly involved in the war. Though emotional they were getting closure, forgiving each other.

Robots will be trained by the billionaire class to do their biddings, don't worry about the robots, worry about the humans training them.

Posted in: Kishida leaves for Middle East to promote energy cooperation See in context

"energy cooperation", a.k.a. "sell me your oil". It amazes me that Japan has the technology, the human resources, strategically advantageous if it actually invest in green energy, because it has high probability to be a leader in the sector, but it does absolutely everything it can to stifle itself.

Posted in: Smart girls don’t marry? Japan rushes to erase stigma for women in science See in context

The late Singapore PM Lee Kuan Yew once mentioned that Japan pursued the path of "educate women high enough" so they can educate their children well. He was comparing it to his policies which promote education of women as much as possible. Looking back he regretted he didn't go the Japanese way, as the result was only apparent after the fact, that Japan had population boom while Singapore men shy away from highly educated women sooner that Japan did.

You can still feel the effect of this policies even today. Good luck getting rid of that.

Putin gone will not end the war, he's not alone. If he's threatened by foreign force, he'll launch the nukes. Only thing that could end his regime without ending the world, is the age-old peasants' revolt.
