Posted in: U.S. scattered Japan war criminals' ashes at sea to prevent worship See in context

@samit

The US should have also closed the Yasukuni Shrine to prevent the worship of 13 A-class war criminals.

Unfortunately the US understanding of Japanese culture was severely lacking at that time, and now Japan's rightwingers go to Yasukuni to worship Tojo Hideki and Co instead.

The enshrinement of the A-class criminals was done nearly 2 decades after their convictions.

Yasukuni Shrine was established in 1869, and the main purpose was to commemorate those who died in wars for Japan. So, a few decades before WW2 started.

The A-class criminals were enshrined at the shrine from 1978 after a decision had been made from 1970.

The Showa emperor was upset over the enshrinement and stopped visiting Yasukuni shrine from 1975. Since then, the Heisei and Reiwa emperors have also never visited Yasukuni shrine.

And you think anyone believes the CCP!!

At least the Prime Minister is willing to sit down and meet face to face and discuss the government's plan.

You will never see this in China, it will be an order and there will be consequences if you don't fall in line with the government.

Even now, the Japanese government has asked China to have a meeting and discuss it scientifically but China being the child it is has refused any meeting at all and continues to refuse any discussion.

This just shows you the amount of distrust that Japan has, if it's not the Korean government one moment, it's the Korean opposition party that keeps moving the goal posts!!

IAEA with a few Korean experts inspected the proposed water discharge plan. OK

Another group of invited Korean experts inspected the water treatment facilities. OK

IAEA gives final approval of the water discharge plan. OK

Korean government respects the decision of the IAEA. OK

And now. . . . . . . .another goal post!!!!

Did anyone at the press conference ask these South Korean opposition lawmakers for their opinion on the following fact?

From 2010 to 2020, nuclear power plants in South Korea discharged a total of 4,362 TBq of tritium, which is more than 5 times the total amount of tritium (860 TBq) stored at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.

Most Hong Kongers know that Mr. Lee is just a puppet and anything that he says is just towing the CCP line.

The next big idea from the government is to discontinue teaching English in schools and to introduce a mandatory mandarin curriculum. Another stupid idea leading to more disintegration of Hong Kong.

Posted in: Hong Kong police offer bounties for 8 prominent overseas activists See in context

This is a big step backwards for Hong Kong.

Your regular Hong Konger has no interest in dobbing in these freedom fighters. Only snitches and the mainlanders making a new life overseas.

Just came back yesterday from a week in Hong Kong. Haven't been there since 2018. The place is completely different, the roads aren't crowded as they used to be, conversations in the Yum-cha restaurants are severely held back as no-one talks freely as they used too. There were so many empty retail stores around the Temple Street Market area and most street stalls sold cheap, poorly made mainland goods.

My HK colleagues always told me to be careful when speaking in public, we could only speak naturally when we were in private.

They showed me around the ongoing new construction at Hong Kong airport which the government hopes to compete with Singapore airport. It's too late and a total waste of money, only the HK government stubbornly believes things are going to get better. Everyone is leaving Hong Kong now.

It's a real shame, the "Pearl of the Orient" is no more!!

@Garlic joe

You seem to have no idea at all. Being a foreigner puts you in this country already in the position of the culprit. Just try it out in daily life, e.g. with a car/ bike accident. You will see that police immediately has the guilty party regardless of real facts. That’s why it is really helpful to have a dash cam. I know several cases where this has happened, especially for foreign women.

I also remember this racial profiling by the Tokyo police in 2021, because only foreigners could catch a covid 19 disease and did not behave accordingly.

Dude, what are you talking about?

I have been here for many years, have had bike/car/scooter accidents. As long as I accepted responsibility for any wrongdoing that I knowingly did, I have had no problems with the boys in blue or my insurance companies.

I'm sensing a "whinger".

Ridiculous!!

By running away to Lebanon, he has no credibility whatsoever. He should have manned up and fought in court.

With his status in Japan at the time, he could have gotten a suspended sentence and a slap on the wrist.

After leaving Nissan, he would have been head hunted by numerous car makers overseas to head their operations.

Now hiding in Lebanon, most of his accomplices that helped him escape having been convicted and several Interpol notices for him, he has killed his career goodbye.

You made your own bed and now must lie in it!!!

The USA bad-mouthing China at every chance, threatening China with everything from military to sanctions, a non stop buccal ejection of threats and hate, and he is wondering why the Chinese are saying no to meeting!

It doesn't matter if everything say about China was true or not if you go an a year long rant against a place don't expect them to shake your hand and sit down nicely and talk.

Well, can't everyone play China's game. It's called "Being two faced!" The USA is taking a page out of China's book!!

China says: "We are a peaceful nation and are committed to peace in the South China Sea. "

BUT then they say: "We will smash Taiwan and any form of self rule!"

China and Korea also release massive amounts of radioactive water every year.

China’s Fuqing plant released 52 trillion Bq of tritium in 2020, and South Korea’s Kori facility near Pusan city released 50 trillion Bq in 2018 and the Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant roughly 80 kilometers away has been releasing another 25 trillion Bq into the sea and 110 trillion Bq into the atmosphere.

(The becquerel (Bq) is an internationally-accepted unit for measuring the strength and volume of radioactivity.)

I do hope that Japanese officials will ask Korea on how it handles their radioactive water release. Because their reactors in Pusan are much closer to Japan than Fukushima is to Korea.

It is heart breaking and I have a lot of sympathy for the parents who are still continuing with their efforts to find their daughter. They had a promising lead a few years after Yuri-chan went missing, but it was found to be a time-wasting couple trying to extort money from the Yoshikawas.

I remember when these posters first came out in Osaka, they were posted at stations, police boxes and other places. My daughter who was youngin at the time asked me to explain about a flyer we received from the police at Namba station.

Now, my daughter is grown up and is an adult. Whenever, the media reports about this case the same time every year, I suddenly get a spell of sadness for the Yoshikawas.
